Van Lathan suggests that Major League Baseball could eventually overtake the NBA as the dominant league because it prioritizes its fans, while the NBA is making things difficult with its current style of play and by spreading games across too many different channels.

There’s a special type of chemistry between a guard and center. Warriors and Nuggets fans have seen how deadly it can be for over a decade. Now, the Phoenix Suns are building their own exciting version. I wrote about it: nba.com/suns/news/insi…

The NBA is reporting record numbers in attendance, ratings, and revenue as the 2025-26 regular season comes to an end. New on @ClutchPoints - a deep dive into the state of the league, including what the 2026-27 salary cap numbers actually mean: clutchpoints.com/nba/nba-storie…

NBA on NBC is averaging an average of 2.6M viewers/game. ESPN/ABC games are averaging roughly 2.06M viewers per game. MLB averaged 1.8M on Sunday Night Baseball in 2025 and 2.04M on FOX. The NBA's average of 2.03M viewers in 2025 ran laps around the MLB's 1.05M average viewers. The NBA's viewership as a whole was up 94% in ‘25 compared to the MLB's, and baseball's most-watched game of 3.045M viewers would have ranked as the eighth most-watched NBA game. Across the four major sports leagues in America (NBA, NFL, MLB, and NHL), 37 of the 50 most followed athletes on Instagram are NBA players, and the NBA leads all four major sports leagues in social video views and engagement, generating tens of billions of annual views. Thanks for your concern, but the NBA is miles ahead of the MLB in engagement and total viewership numbers.
