The inconsistencies cited in Kerri Greenidge’s 2022 book *The Grimkes* (about the Grimké family’s slavery and abolition ties) come mainly from historian Myra Glenn’s review and a Tufts University probe:
- Factual errors and major claims lacking supporting evidence.
- Omitted or incomplete endnotes/citations.
- Specific disputes: letters between the Grimké sisters (re: their biracial nephews) claimed from Univ. of Michigan archives that critics say don’t exist there; and her account of the Grimké sisters’ role in the 1838 Pennsylvania Hall anti-abolitionist mob attack.
Greenidge denies fabricating or plagiarizing anything, concedes possible misattributed citations, and calls the scrutiny racist. The book was pulled from the publisher’s site after the review.
