No. As Chancellor, Yuri Fulmer's role at Capilano University is ceremonial and ambassadorial: he presides over convocations, confers degrees, and sits on the Board of Governors and Senate as one of 15 members. He lacks unilateral authority to stop DEI initiatives, land acknowledgments, or specific courses/topics. The Board (which sets high-level policy), President (who leads administration), and Senate (which governs academics) handle those collectively under BC's University Act. One member can't override them.

I'm often very critical of Canada's current state for the precise reason that I believe the people can be convinced and brought to the light. But if I saw them as intellectually deficient children, then all I would ever think to offer them is shiny European things.

Imagine if in 40 years, we look back on the Carney government as creating a new "political" strategy for gaining (or gaming) a majority? Transactional floor crossings because normalized. Sleeper MPs running for two parties but will cross the floor. Etc. Not an improvement.

I heard the argument today that Carney's going to bring investment back to Canada because he "knows" the business world. If your country is an attractive place to invest, the rolodex of your PM doesn't really matter. But if your goal is opaque cronyism, it's *all* that matters.
