🚨 IRAN JUST ACTIVATED ARTICLE 111 OF ITS CONSTITUTION For the first time in 36 years, Iran has a new face at the top. Ayatollah Alireza Arafi. 67 years old. And most people have never heard his name. Here’s everything you need to know about the man now running Iran: He’s not doing it alone. Iran formed a 3-person leadership council: Arafi, President Pezeshkian, and Chief Justice Mohseni-Eje’i. They’re splitting Khamenei’s powers between them until the Assembly of Experts picks a permanent Supreme Leader. But Arafi is the one everyone’s watching. This guy has been quietly stacking power for DECADES. Born in 1959 in the small town of Meybod. His father was reportedly close with Khomeini himself, the original Supreme Leader. He was sent to Qom for religious training at age 11. By 33, Khamenei personally made him Friday prayer leader. That doesn’t happen unless you’re trusted at the highest levels. He simultaneously held THREE of the most powerful positions in the country: – Director of Iran’s entire seminary system – Member of the Guardian Council (the body that vets every law and every candidate) – Member of the Assembly of Experts (the body that literally picks the Supreme Leader) The man who now temporarily IS the Supreme Leader was already on the committee that CHOOSES the Supreme Leader. He’s what makes him different. He speaks fluent English and Arabic. He met Pope Francis at the Vatican in 2022. And he’s been openly pushing for Iran to adopt artificial intelligence to spread its message globally. He’s being described by Reuters as a “completely trusted loyalist” of the regime. The IRGC sees him as a safe pair of hands. Some analysts had him on the shortlist to replace Khamenei for YEARS. Now he’s effectively filling that role, at least temporarily. The real question: does the Assembly of Experts make it permanent? Or does someone else emerge? I will keep you updated as this story develops. Turn on notifications so you don’t miss anything.

The attacks on Iran by Israel and the United States are illegal, unprovoked and unjustifiable. Peace and diplomacy was possible. Instead, Israel and the United States chose war. This is the behaviour of rogue states — and they have jeopardised the safety of humankind around the world with this catastrophic act of aggression. Our government must condemn this flagrant breach of international law, and urgently pursue a foreign policy based on justice, sovereignty and peace.

To the courageous sons and daughters of America now striking at the heart of tyranny: Godspeed. May divine protection shield you as you shatter the chains that have bound a proud nation for generations. The hour of liberation for the Iranian people has come.

Vandalizing the statue of Winston Churchill is a disgrace. He was one of Britain's greatest leaders who stood firm against tyranny so that fundamental freedoms, such as the right to protest, endure today. We should not dishonor the memory of those who protected our liberty.

Today is #ShroveTuesday, the day before the start of #Lent. The name is derived from the word shrive, meaning to absolve. It is a day of penitence when Christians confess their sins and receive forgiveness, as well as a day of celebration before the abstinence of Lent.

@elonmusk Did you know the PM who helped end the slave trade is buried in Burnham, Buckinghamshire? William Wyndham Grenville (PM 1806-07) championed the landmark 1807 Act to abolish the slave trade. He lived at Dropmore House and rests at St Peter's Church.

Wilberforce, and people like him, ended the global slave trade that had existed for several thousand years. They didn’t invent it, but they did stop it. I should say almost entirely. There are still remnants of it in some parts of the world.
Proudofus.uk@ProudofusUK

He was DEFEATED ELEVEN TIMES. Attacked. Threatened with DEATH. Nearly blind. Addicted to opium just to function. They told him to stop. He spent forty-six years refusing. His name was William Wilberforce. Born in Hull, 1759. He could have lived a comfortable life. Wealthy family. Safe seat in Parliament. Instead he chose to destroy the most powerful economic system in the British Empire. The slave trade. He didn't fight alone. Thomas Clarkson rode 35,000 miles gathering evidence. Olaudah Equiano, man who had been enslaved himself, gave testimony that no politician could ignore. Wilberforce took their evidence to Parliament. They voted no. He came back. They voted no. He came back. Lost by eight votes. MPs deliberately stayed away so they wouldn't have to choose a side. He came back. Again. And again. And again. By now his eyesight was nearly gone. His body was breaking. He'd been on opium since he was 29. Twenty years after he started, they voted again. 283 to 16. The slave trade was abolished. But he wasn't finished. Slavery itself was still legal. He fought for another twenty-six years. In July 1833, lying in bed, barely able to move, he received word. Parliament had voted. Slavery was abolished across the entire British Empire. Three days later, William Wilberforce died. He held on just long enough. They buried him in Westminster Abbey. 🇬🇧 For 300 years, North African pirates enslaved over a million Europeans. 🇬🇧 Spain. Italy. France. Ireland. Even Iceland. Entire villages taken. Europe paid ransoms. Begged. No one could stop it. Then Britain sailed into Algiers harbour. 50,000 cannonballs. 9 hours. Every slave walked free. Not just British. All of them. 300 years of terror. Ended in a single day. Be proud of us. 🇬🇧

@AlexDaviesJones Nope, you voted to hike taxes on hardworking parents who live within their means, so they can subsidise others who keep having kids they can't afford while refusing to work full-time. Bravo, Alex.

Britain should repurchase America. After all, it was ours once, and it would enhance our North Atlantic security. If you don’t sell it to us, President Trump, we’re going to impose tariffs on the U.S. and any country who supports you in resisting this very good deal. Fair?

@TGE_LDNM It's a CONGESTION CHARGE, you stupid boy. Electric cars still cause congestion. Why are you even driving into London? EVs tend to be bigger and heavier than IC cars and take up even more space.
