@DorkbotLondon Many thanks for the heads-up. I *love* Ceefax (and Oracle and Teletext and 4-tel)

@DorkbotLondon Good idea, perhaps early in the New Year. Anyone planning to come ought to have a close look at the museum's website first so they know what to expect (vintage radios, radar, electromechanical stuff - *yes*, livecoding and generative music - *not so much*)

Update #2 The modules were all unplugged from the wall, but I'm not very optimistic about what's coming. Although this is a very dry city, most of the modules are still heavily corroded. Only about 70 units are in relatively good condition, yet still covered with thick dust.

@sevenwheel1 @MLE_Online Agreed. Also, the CPU chip looks too complex for just 4 function arithmetic. Possibly a scientific calculator

@MLE_Online You definitely have a calculator there. Now all you need is to figure out the keypad. It looks like the two outer contacts are probably power and ground, and the inner contacts would to to the switches.

@FakeDaveGreen I'm certainly nostalgic for *all* those games. Another factor for the rise of video games / demise of EM games in the late 70s is that anything video-based seemed incredibly glamorous and hi-tech at the time.

sounds fun, but why isn't anyone nostalgic for pre-1978 coinops - Pong, Breakout, Sea Wolf - & electromechanical games? Maybe ROM-based cabinets were - less risk to owner - fewer moving parts -> more maintainable & ubiquitous? - less toy-like? - louder? twitter.com/RetroDan16/sta…

If you played in UK arcades between 1980-86 (ish), I'd love to hear from you for a project I need to finish. I'm after anecdotes, memories and even better, photos. Drop me a DM if you can help, and please, please RT. UK gamers only, I'm looking for a specifically British angle.

haunted by vague memories of these Williams/ Sega/ Midway/ Namco electromechanical coinops which presumably co-existed with (easier-to-maintain?) Pong/ Space Invaders-style "video games" into the early 1980s... pinrepair.com/arcade/

@Sifisi @synx508 I don't think so (unless it's a faulty one). The contacts should be Normally Open

@BreakIntoProg It's easy to get into trouble with these. Put some sort of mark on the rings (e.g. tippex) so you can get back to a known, good-ish, orientation.

The Scalpel is my favourite modern building in London. I particularly like the way the cleaning cradle pops out of the roof like a cuckoo clock. Here's some behind-the-scenes footage: integral-cradles.mercury-web.co.uk/facade-access-… The video at the end of the page is worth watching.

@jonty I'd definitely come. More likely to buy stuff than sell (although it *ought* to be the other way round).

I am once again wishing there was a flea market for weird tech and tools in London. I want to sell my junk boxes and buy an acoustic coupler. ...so If we ran one, would you come? Would you sell things?
