@ElaineByrne It wasn't "frozen". It was perfectly playable at all stages, having walked its length and breath after the final whistle last evening.

Two GAA games today. Two very different pitches. All-Ireland Camogie Club final replay on half frozen pitch in Thurles. All-Ireland men’s club SFC semi-final in Páirc Uí Chaoimh, which won GAA Pitch of the Year. Female players on the biggest day of their lives deserve better

@PremierviewPod The Thurles pitch was playable this evening. No player made a mistake that was in any way related to its adverse condition.

Tipperary v Waterford is moved from Clonmel to Fethard because of a patch of frozen ground, yet at the very same time a Camogie All Ireland Final is being played in Semple Stadium. Same county, same weather system, very different decisions. It is hard to square. Either conditions are playable or they are not. Moving an intercounty senior hurling game at short notice over frost concerns while Thurles hosts a national final raises serious questions around consistency, inspection standards, and common sense.

@DLynchSport I walked the pitch after the game, up and down, side to side, and found it completely playable.

Just heard the sad news that Martyn Brown, a co-founder of @Team17 who brought us franchises such as Alien Breed and Worms has sadly passed away. Far too young. RIP Martyn.

@mlverney Oh please. The players don't want it, the managements don't want it, it isn't part of our games. Remember when JC said something mildly out of order, it was paper fodder for a week afterwards. And still, and still, and still, LK/CK is a sellout. The masses are not fooled...

It’s baffling that we have All-Ireland SHC semi-finals this weekend with no media done by any of the four counties - same situation for the football right now too! We are totally shooting ourselves in the foot as regards hyping and promoting the biggest games of the GAA season!

@ConorCounihan What happens when there are no referees left? Why would anyone subject themselves to this sort of trial by (social) media, most likely by people who have never refereed a game in their lives, many of whom who never even played the game. Perhaps a mix of AI and VAR will work?

@LimerickFanPage I went home that day convinced that we would not have as good a chance in another generation. I was wrong, thankfully.

@movementcoachkm What is your own experience of refereeing a team sport like Gaelic football or hurling, and whether that level of fitness is really necessary or not?

Referees seem to want their own special test they can manipulate. The test is just a barometer of your aerobic capacity. And to be honest if you can’t do it then you shouldn’t be refereeing top level games. It’s absolutely nowhere near the bar one would have for players. They have got to get real here. Yes it is a one size fits all, it’s a basic requirement. It’s clear this has not been explained to the refs what the test tells us. We can extrapolate from a test like this that it is very unlikely you will have your wits about you after running around in Croke Park for 50/60 mins to make big decisions. It’s baseline, you’d hope anyone reffing the big days would be well above it. It’s harsh but it’s an absolute necessity independent.ie/sport/gaelic-g…
