@afneil Don't even think Boris had senior minister creds. At least May past that test. Sunak had great potential but it came to early in his political career and too late in Tory period. Cameron, Brown, Major and Blair made big mistakes but were credible PMs.

@JamesMadeley @JacquesMaree73 @CharlesRTel @bencoles_ Regardless the Lions would go as huge favourites which is completely against the ethos of a Lions Tour. IMO if anything they should only tour every 8 years to NZ/SA to preserve the near mythical status the Lions are gradually losing in professional times. Scarcity is underrated.

Attlee’s governments ran primary surpluses in every year from 1946 to 1951. Dalton and Cripps maintained wartime tax rates, extended rationing (bread was rationed from 1946, which it never was during the war), and held public spending under tight control.
Such a fundamental misreading of postwar economic history.

Clement Attlee ignored the Balance the Books BS after WWII. Britain was in debt and on rations. But his government still spent big to create the NHS and a welfare state. 80 years on, those institutions still stand. But today's politicians refuse to follow in his footsteps.

this all began innocently at Christmas w Who Dares Wins by @dcsandbrook - a 900 page book on 3 years of recent UK history then I read Seasons in the Sun a 960 page book about Britain in the mid 70s now I've jumped back to 1964 these books look innocuous but they're addictive

@stephenjones9 Have to maintain the ambition. If you have to have two of the clubs on slightly lower funding in short term with ambition to get up again, so be it. Like Ireland did with Connacht. But must keep 4 teams. Must join the Prem.
