For newer followers - I'm bouncing between my Dad's work for @beaford, his private work, and photographs in the Beaford Old Archive, borrowed from the Devon community and re-photographed by Dad. Sometimes the same people show up as young and old...

What was intended to be a short term project became a seventeen year obsession for self-taught photographer James Ravilious. Inspired by the work of Henri Cartier-Bresson, the master of candid photography, Ravilious captured over 80,000 black and white images depicting the daily lives of North Devon’s inhabitants, just before it modernised. His photos reflect his deep admiration for the people he photographed and provide a glimpse into the real life of rural England in the late 20th century, showing long-standing country traditions that were still an integral part of everyday life.

Eric Ravilious was killed #OTD in 1942 when the aircraft he was in during a search & rescue mission off Iceland failed to return. From the countryside to war, his depiction of Britain in the 30s & early years of #WW2 remain an incredible legacy, over eighty years after his death.
