@jasonrantz My Nest offers to adjust settings to be more green, and I always decline. Are you saying that PSE is changing my settings without my knowledge?

@keyawnce3 @Jenbox360 I agree. $30 is just too much for a gaming subscription. Very few people can justify it, especially if they also have to still buy games not released into Game Pass.
English

@JamesStanard @Jenbox360 The issue was thee amount of the increase was too high, and too abrupt. You don’t force 50% higher fees on users like that. They could’ve taken many different approaches including adding another tier for the new additions
English

@chaosprimeZ Even if they have price targets in mind, there is a lot of time left to make changes.

@jondelarroz I'll just go start over from Season 1. It's too soon for a reboot anyway.

@JeremiahDJohns I'm intrigued by the idea of taking out a cobra with my bare hands. Could I do it? Only one way to know...

@JamesStanard NVidia does not know how to write a modern BC7 encoder (CPU or GPU).
English

@richgel999 I have a non-public BC7 GPU encoder that can filter out various modes for faster search, but it's basically a brute force exploration of all partitions and modes. I'd love a better strategy, but that's not my day job anymore.
English

@JamesStanard I looked at the GPU BC7 encoder in NVidia's retxntc project. They may be amazing at neural tech - but their GPU texture encoder is a weak, obsolete design. They are needlessly sacrificing bitrate (~.3bpp) for BC7 sideband data. It's all unnecessary.

English

@richgel999 I think there is big potential for real-time, GPU-based encoders to take procedurally generated textures (e.g. neural textures) and encode them for fast hw-based texturing.
English

@JamesStanard You're absolutely right though - properly coded/trained neural texture encoders (CPU or GPU) would rock. But honestly, I think that's probably overkill - it's easy to hand-design these things. The problem was solved the wrong way, and it's not as complex as it was made out to be.

@feelsdesperate Is that what really happened, or was it just a passing fad to overpay for sweatshop shoes?
English

It’s really sad what happened to Nike.
They went woke and now they’re broke.
I never see people wearing their shoes at the gym.
They tried to appeal to an imaginary audience that doesn’t exist and then were surpassed by a bunch of other brands.

@Meio_Szetszuna Why the hell would Sony put Steam on PS6? The whole reason for PlayStation consoles is to sell you licensed software with Sony taking a 30% cut.

@catturd2 If that isn’t defensible in all 50 states, that’s concerning.

It would help if teachers didn’t sugar coat socialism as some kind of hippy love-in where everyone is taken care of and no one has to suffer. Useful idiots need to unlearn this propaganda. Unfortunately, the most compelling argument to unlearn this is by having to suffer through a communist regime like Cuba or Venezuela. Until you suffer, it’s always “true communism has never been tried. It will definitely work this time!”
English

@JamesStanard @Hitchslap1 i don't disagree :) but it would be valuable for alternatives to think about the message to the otherwise normal people :)
English

@mcnabbd @Hitchslap1 Don’t be so sympathetic. Socialism is appealing to immature children and economic losers. They want the government to rescue them without understanding that this enslaves them.
English

the tricky bit is to see the motivation and not how people are lied to by politicians. life is difficult, uncertain, risky, terrifying, and fundamentally unfair. socialism says "we can make it fair. we can force the world to love you. otherwise they're gonna keep pushing you around." easy to see the appeal
English

@prageru Yes, but only if the race is too close to call on Election Night. If you can't get it in the mail in advance, put it in a drop box.
