This is part of my concern with the FHB statistics. So a well off young man from China buys a Glen Waverly house or a German surgeon buys an apartment in Bondi, if they have residency both are first home buyers in the stats. What are the stats for native born Aussies?

I once asked the ABS if they knew if migrant buyers were accessing first home buyers grants and if they knew whether these migrant buyers already had homes overseas. They said they did not know. I suspect anyone buying their first property in Australia largely has access to FHB Grants

@bowtiedstocks I've lived in other countries and see what they do there. Corporate landlords are a thing, and it's only really been because of negative gearing, unavailable to corporates, that has kept the majority of housing in the hands of mum and dad investors.

Throughout the West, receiving migrants has replaced having children. Record migration has meant downward pressure on wages, upward pressure on housing costs, sustained pressure on social and physical infrastructure and serious strain on social cohesion. So if we do need more people, to staff our care homes, pick our crops, serve our tables, and clean our premises, it's high time that we looked to ourselves rather than to others.
