Dear BA ⁦@British_Airways⁩ - might it be possible for you not to send push alerts where you get the flight time wrong by an hour ( early ). It’s happened twice now. It’s a little disconcerting ..

@RhonddaBryant @BexBitchley @RichmoMusic @lisanandy @Keir_Starmer Thank you Chris - anything you can do to make life easier for touring British musicians in EU/Schengen would be enormously gratefully received by us all. I’m having a nightmare of a situation with work permits for a 3 month trip within Schengen, it’s a complete minefield.

⚡️#Labour’s spiteful plan to charge VAT on private schools won’t raise the money they hope for as many schools will just go bust. And as Labour’s Emily Thornberry has said: state school class sizes will get larger. In the #Lichfield constituency, there are no spare state places‼️

@Jim_BUK @DaveWallsworth @UKLabour Can we pleeeeeease stop with this “worked hard to send my kids to private school” nonsense, as if those who couldn’t dream in a million years of sending their kids to private school DON’T work hard. Private school is a luxury. Luxuries should be charged with VAT.

@DaveWallsworth @UKLabour Spot on Dave. Ignore those on here who flare up at common sense. You’ve worked hard and prioritise your children’s education. Like most who send their children to private school.

This is a stupid policy by ⁦@UKLabour⁩. Who will be prevented from sending their children to private school? Those people who can just afford it today. It won’t affect the very well off. Labour’s VAT plans blamed for fall in private school entries. thetimes.co.uk/article/03862d…

@bam57581565 @DaveWallsworth @stopclimbFL200 you genuinely don't think government spends money on things for the citizens of the country? I don't agree with *how* they spend it, but who do you think funds health, education, transport, security, police, military, courts, libraries, housing, waste collection, social care....?

@JamieAPhillips @DaveWallsworth @stopclimbFL200 Isn't it obvious? Talk is all of "government money" & "government funding" & "the government paying" for things. The government dispose of our taxes (rarely on anything beneficial to the people of this country) so "they" must be the government, huh?

I don’t do politics very often on here as it guarantees you are going to annoy half of your followers! So for a bit of balance let’s do a post which has the potential of annoying everyone! (That’s a joke by the way, so don’t take it seriously!). The awful Rwanda policy forced through government by the @Conservatives means I can’t vote for them. It’s a dreadful policy which is insulting to the Rwandan people and will provide little to no deterrent to illegal immigrants. It’s a ‘look how hard on illegal immigrants we are being’ policy which will cost millions and is extremely unfair. I believe it will probably lose the @Conservatives as many votes as it will gain them. It’s a deflection policy to give people something to talk about because of their other major policy failings. I’m not saying I disagree with everything the party is pushing out but this is bad enough to prevent me voting for them in the upcoming General Election. However, the only other party which could be in government later this year is the @UKLabour party and they’ve made themselves unvotable for me (not a word but should be!) by their dreadful VAT on private school fees policy. I’ve been fortunate enough to be able to send my children to private school and believe it was the best use of the money possible. A far better use than expensive holidays, cars etc. By sending my children to private school I have removed them from the state system so the government hasn’t had to pay for them via my taxes. Now @UKLabour are saying they will add VAT at 20% to private school fees (Obviously they aren’t saying they will do that directly because that would be too incendiary even for them! They are going to do it by changing the tax position of private schools which means the vast majority of them will have no option but to pass the extra 20% on to the fees) On the contrary, I have always thought there was a good argument that using private schools to educate your children should actually be a tax benefit to the parents for precisely the reason that they are paying their tax contribution to fund state schools in exactly the same way as everyone else but are not using the facility. There are those people for whom this rise will have little impact - those who are properly wealthy. The parents (and therefore children) it will hit hardest are those who are/have stretched themselves to the limit in order to send their children to private school but will no longer be able do so. So what will the net outcome be? Some parents will have no option but to remove their children from their present private school and send them to a state school. Others will have the option of sending their children to private school in future taken away. This will increase the numbers in state school, adding more pressure to an already underfunded area and result in a lower standard of education. It won’t raise that much money and the vast majority, if not all of it, will go on extra spending required to accommodate the new students. It’s another ‘statement’ policy targeted at a certain section of the public in order to get them to vote for @UKLabour on a so-called principle matter which is extremely poorly thought out. With the best will in the world there is no point voting in the next election where I live because it will have zero impact on the result. I, like many, unfortunately live in a rock solid seat area and, as always, the result of the general election will actually come down to quite a small number of seats and voters. But that’s another argument for another day! I am genuinely interested to hear people’s views on the above and please don’t get upset/annoyed by what I’ve written. It also, obviously, has nothing to do with my job! (Tin hat on!😂)

@JamieAPhillips @DaveWallsworth @stopclimbFL200 You believe they would spend the revenue raised on improving state schools? I think that is unlikely. They squander more money than they put to good use for the people.

@DaveWallsworth @the_geeker also disagree with this! You don't just 'pay for state school' via taxes. You pay for all of society via taxes. You don't pay for your child's specific place at a school, you pay for the overall good of children across all of society, which benefits all citizens in the longrun

@the_geeker I’m very aware that people will disagree with me, as I said. But what about the fact that those parents who send their children to private school still pay for state school via their taxes?
