The consistency debate starts early.
Until fans and teams accept that every decision has a range of reasonable responses within which a decision is not incorrect, this madness will never end.
The same incident can correctly be viewed as a red card by one and a yellow another

I also think yellow is correct in ‘well. I don’t think it’s DOGSO. And I think Boyle’s touch downgrades it to BPA and yellow.
But it’s a game of opinions and I can see the view that ‘wells is red I just don’t agree.

My recollection is that the ball is never within a playable distance

@afc1903mad A lot of people disagree. A lot of people think Findley does attempt to play the ball, tries to hook a leg and wasn’t far off. Ex referees and fans.
The word genuine isn’t in the law. So it’s a debate on whether there was ‘no possibility of playing the ball’ some say there was.

@JamieGuyan Except you are discounting the requirement that defines a yellow or red which is whether there was a genuine attempt to play the ball
In both instances, neither player attempts to play the ball

@afc1903mad For me I think they’re both within a range of reasonable outcomes - I think fans can be disappointed it didn’t go their way in the same way you’re disappointed if someone misses a guilt edged chance.
I do think both decisions are entirely justifiable in their own right though.

Their only argument is the inconsistency with the Priestman yellow card which in effect, met the same requirements as Findlays
There is (in my opinion) inconsistency between the Dickinson and McLean decisions

I’m rebutting Hearts’ statement which I think is hysterical and systemic of this ridiculous consistency debate we keep hearing.
People are allowed , and have , different views on these incidents.

@afc1903mad Well it literally is subjective. You can think it’s unreasonable to have a different view but it’s still a subjective decision. An objective decision is in/out of play.
As I say , people can disagree - but accusing the referees of conspiratorial lack of consistency isn’t healthy

@afc1903mad And while we can all feel aggrieved when we don’t get the decision we want. And we can all debate why we disagree on the correct outcome. There needs to be far more acceptance (particularly in the media) that having a different opinion doesn’t make someone factually wrong.

@afc1903mad The laws are subjective, it’s a series of considerations. Your no genuine attempt is someone else’s genuine attempt.
Many people think both are and aren’t reds and that’s exactly it. And in a lot of cases different opinions can be justified.
Eg. Madden thinks Findley is a 🟡

A different referee on a different day might caution Findlay, another might send off Priestman. That isn’t a conspiracy. It’s not even a mistake. It’s a difference of opinion and both are defensible
These hysterical statements don’t help anyone. They certainly don’t improve refs.

There are no material consistencies between the incidents.
A - it’s different players , at a different time, in a different game, with different officials.
B - it’s a different passage of play, at a different angle, with a different touch, and a different challenge.
