@stevejpitchford @geraint9918 @EdwardJDavey You miss the point, the queens speech is the traditional confidence motion. But Labour can call a confidence motion at any time to test confidence, it would fail though. She had the confidence of the majority of MPs by definition as she’s the leader of their party.

Liz Truss has made it clear: This is still a Conservative Government that is hopelessly out-of-touch and takes the British people for granted. Our by-election victories forced Johnson out, now we need a General Election to get the rest of them out too.

@JamieSt16724059 @geraint9918 @EdwardJDavey I keep re-reading what I typed and what I see is a concern that I feel our elected representatives should have some process in confirming the PM following an appointment by a relatively small group of unelected party members. I can’t see any allegation of rules being broke?

Quite remarkable to hear Johnson spell out what a great leader he was and how much he delivered … a fantasist as he arrived and a fantasist as he leaves. The worst PM in history. He leaves the country in a mess and politics with standards debased

@AidanMageeTV @MichelleDewbs We have a system that 99.9 percent of the people commenting on don’t understand. We also have a press who are not honest brokers and are playing on public fear by peddling lies. What a time to be alive.

@MichelleDewbs We have a system which allowed Gordon Brown to serve three years as PM without ever winning an election, while Boris Johnson served two-and-a-half despite winning an 80-seat majority. Work that out.

1. How many people 'chose' Gordon Brown? 2. UK doesn't have a presidential system 3. What this country needs is stability/focus not more uncertainty/distraction Am so fed up of a) hypocrisy & b) this country & much in it being a political football, at a cost to us, the people
Richard Burgon MP@RichardBurgon

So the next Prime Minister has been chosen by just 81,000 unrepresentative Tories. That's simply not acceptable. Replacing one Tory PM with another is not the way out of this crisis. We need a General Election and a chance to kick the Tories out.

@stevejpitchford @geraint9918 @EdwardJDavey That’s totally irrelevant though. Same thing happened with Brown and Labour by the way. This is how representative democracy works. By all means argue to change the system but don’t argue that the rules aren’t being followed, they absolutely are.

@geraint9918 @EdwardJDavey It’s an interesting suggestion. Technically correct as far as I know, but I suspect personalities of leaders goes a long way to influencing the swing vote. Would you disagree?

Fair enough to criticise Thérèse Coffey for her politics. Far too many people who should know better are attacking her personal appearance. It's absolutely not on.

@Dav_m160 @GavinRossPhoto @uk_sf_writer @campbellclaret Whatever the cause of the UK’s problems, and its new poverty & weakness that helped embolden Putin to invade Ukraine, as someone who likes the UK I am always going to seek solutions to rectify matters, in spite of those who moan that we should just accept our lower standing.

@shintomac @SammyZammy @Atipico1996 You’re advocating policies and restrictions that show fear. Yes I will still feel exactly the same thanks, I’d rather die at 45 than live a half lived life till 90. My aim is to live, not exist.

@JamieSt16724059 @SammyZammy @Atipico1996 I certainly don’t live in fear, just knowledge. Your words appear to indicate that you accept the risks, but I wonder whether you will still feel the same if your gamble doesn’t win.

NEW Truss energy plan as it stands is to freeze energy price cap at its current level (ie which took force in April), at least until the new year when the policy will be revisited, according to multiple sources in new govt. Story by @DavidParsley50 & me: inews.co.uk/news/politics/…

@oflynnsocial Didn't Ree Smog suggest we had effectively a presidency, so we couldn't possibly have a leadership change when there was a war raging? If that were the case, then it recognizes that, while voting for individual MPs, there is also the "package". Can't have it all ways.

Didn't the Left realise that because the Tories won a five-year parliamentary majority in 2019 it meant that any replacement for Boris Johnson would be another Tory?

@shintomac @SammyZammy @Atipico1996 If you want to live in fear then do so, in my view such a choice is not living and I would rather die early than live afraid and trapped. There is nothing more to do with this now other than choose how we want to live as individuals.

@lost_mccynic @campbellclaret @EasyPeasy_3 There were votes in Holyrood with all parties putting up challengers for First Minister and Nicola Sturgeon has won each of them. So yes, she has been elected by the voters and by MSPs.

@campbellclaret Not really because the prime minister isn’t elected by the public and the leadership contest isn’t a referendum as well you know.
