@caitlinmoran I’ve had four blood transfusions in the last 3 months and I was quietly emotional on receiving them. So many grateful thanks to all who donate.

When you donate blood, you get a text like this a few weeks later, and it's never not quietly profound and wonderful.

Another exciting development for cancer vaccines! 💉 With ovarian cancer having lower survival rates than several other common types of cancer, research like this is urgently needed. It’ll take time to see its impact, but it's a promising step forward that could change lives.
Sky News@SkyNews

Scientists at the University of Oxford have developed the world's first ovarian cancer vaccine that could wipe the disease out, researchers have said. 🔗 Read more trib.al/MGeukdK

Crazy commissioning. Continues the cycle of poor practice and abuse. I never adhered to it even when told to. SWs have ethics!

BMA: “The Academy has finally acknowledged mounting worries of the medical profession about the expansion of the role of PAs and AAs, who cannot and should never replace the role of a fully qualified doctor…troubling that it has taken so long for it to acknowledge that concern.”

Our research has found that one in four people are left to cope alone after a diagnosis with dementia, with thousands of families left to “pick up the pieces”. @GOVUK has said the findings were “alarming” and “completely unacceptable”. Read more 👇 telegraph.co.uk/news/2024/09/2…

Good Morning Britain
'She thought she was a doctor.' Marion and Brendan's daughter died as a direct result of being treated by a Physician Associate when she thought she was seeing a doctor. Emily had a blood clot in her calf but was sent away with a beta blocker & a diagnosis of long Covid. She died three weeks later. Emily's parents are calling for more clarity and regulation.

Two men have been sentenced to 14-and-a-half years in prison for deliberately running down an NHS worker in a car before racially abusing him. Patrick James, 22, of Avonmouth, and Phillip Adams, 26, of Southmead were both convicted last week. orlo.uk/Kpp9t

@RobMitch92 Why wait for regulation and an ethical framework? Especially if you have 50 locums in one LA Adult Social Care service…other LAs are available of course!

@EffectivePrac @BASW_UK Amazing to see no comments on this on here. But is it? Permanently employed Social Workers now massively reduced, replaced by 1) locum staff and 2) unqualified staff. Seriously diminished service. SW advocacy unable to challenge the ££ cuts.

Big inequity issues and issues of ageism here - social workers need to increase our voice on this; more and more older people are being left behind and miss out on the support they need @BASW_UK
Simon Bottery@blimeysimon

This graph is a stark highlight of a new @age_uk report showing the gap between older people who need help with essential tasks and those who actually get it. Overall the report estimates 2m older people now have some unmet need for #socialcare. Very short thread ⬇️

Left: David Frost, "I found the lockdowns actually, a profoundly inhumane and disturbing period to live through" Right: Prof Kevin Fong to the Covid Inquiry "The scale of death experienced by the Intensive Care teams during was unlike anything they had seen before" "It was routine to see 3-5 deaths a day.. I was on a shift where we had 6 deaths on a single shift" "Another hospital told us they had 10 deaths in a shift, two of whom were their own staff" "One of the nurses said they just got tired of putting people in body bags" "Sometimes they were so overwhelmed they were putting patients in body bags and lifting them from the bed, putting them on the floor, putting another patient in the bed because there wasn't time" "Things got so bad, they ran out of body bags, they were instead issued with 9 foot clear plastic sacks and cable ties. And those nurses talk about being really traumatised because they had recurring nightmares. Feeling that they were just throwing bodies away" "These people are used to seeing death, but not on that scale and not like that" "It was like nothing else I had ever seen. Like nothing else any of those teams had ever seen"
