King of fruits or fruit of fear? This summer stay away from Toxic Mangoes The “king of fruits” is back on our plates, but people are advised to exercise caution and avoid being misled by chemically ripened mangoes. They should also be wary of those sold under the label of “organic”. Consumers are urged to verify the authenticity of the produce before making a purchase. With the onset of summer, the mango has begun to flood the markets. However, citizens must not overlook the deadly danger lurking behind these mouth-watering fruits. Driven by a greed for profit, some unscrupulous traders are risking public lives. Instead of allowing mangoes to ripen naturally, they are being artificially ripened using Calcium Carbide and other hazardous chemicals. Purchasing fruits solely because they look shiny and golden on roadside stalls is essentially inviting illness into your home. Typically, a naturally ripened mango does not have a perfectly uniform colour. In contrast, chemically ripened fruits appear bright yellow on the outside but remain raw and toxic on the inside. Medical experts warn that consuming such fruits can lead to immediate health issues like throat irritation, nausea, vomiting, and Diarrhea. In the long run, it may also lead to severe complications such as nervous system damage and respiratory problems. The Hyderabad City Police is already taking a stern stand against such traders who play with public health. The H-FAST is maintaining a strict vigil on the sale of adulterated mangoes, and legal action is being initiated against those who violate the rules. We urge the public not to be deceived by the outward appearance of the fruit and to verify its naturalness before purchasing. Be cautious of mangoes that have an unnatural colour, a chemical odour, or a strange taste. If there are unusual spots on the skin or if the colour changes unexpectedly when washed with baking soda water, realise that they are harmful to your health. If you have any information regarding adulterated mangoes, please report it to Dial 100 or contact the H-FAST helpline at 8712661212. @SajjanarOffice @PMOIndia @HMOIndia @TelanganaCOPs @TelanganaDGP @HiHyderabad

His name was Manjunath Shanmugam. He was an IIM Lucknow graduate. He got a job with Indian Oil Corporation as a sales officer. His territory was Uttar Pradesh. He found that petrol pump dealers were adulterating fuel and cheating customers. He reported it. He sealed the pumps. On November 19 2005 a petrol pump owner shot him dead outside his office. He was 27 years old. The killers were convicted. Sentenced to life imprisonment. His parents did not get compensation for 15 years. His college created the Manjunath Shanmugam Trust in his name to fight corruption. Some men die because they refused to look the other way. India forgets them too quickly.

Another example of how drivers in India still do not know how to approach intersections safely. A truck runs over a bike while taking a wide left turn. The biker, who appears to be going straight, was in the truck’s blind spot. Ideally, both should have come to a complete stop at the intersection and checked properly before proceeding. Basic road discipline can save lives.

Visited the Udaan Yatri café at Mumbai Airport and had chai for just ₹10. Was flying to Delhi and wanted chai before the flight. Spoke to several travellers while I was there. People come from across the world to see Rajasthan’s palaces and forts rising into the sky. But one of its most remarkable sights does the exact opposite. It goes deep into the ground. Chand Baori, in Abhaneri, was built over a thousand years ago. It drops nearly 30 metres across 13 levels and about 3,500 precisely arranged steps making it one of the deepest and largest stepwells in the world. But what impresses most isn’t just the scale, it’s the thinking. We talk a lot today about “design thinking” which is essentially solving problems by blending empathy, function and design so seamlessly that the solution becomes an art form. While the stepwell fills the basic need of water, what emerges is almost hypnotic symmetry. This is design thinking, centuries before we gave it a name. Back then, it was simply… wisdom. #SundayWanderer

In the olden days, when ships used to dock in Mumbai, they used to tie their boats to the door at the harbour. The Sanskrit word for tie is Bandh and for a door, is Dwar. So the place they tied a boat was called BandhDwar. The word then travelled to Persia and became Bandar or Bunder. Which meant port or harbour So any place in Mumbai which has the word Bunder in it, was a place where once upon a time boats used to dock. So the place where boats used to dock and had a lot of sacks in it, became BoriBunder The port where Palla or Hilsa fish was available became Palla Bunder, which then transformed to Apollo Bunder The port where the Portuguese traded Horses with the Arabs, became Ghodbunder And a port which had no particular significance was called Bunder. In Marathi, this became Vandre. Which over a period of time became what we know today as Bandra The word Bunder in Mumbai is not just a pointless word. It actually represents Mumbai's maritime heritage and importance

Indian deep-tech startup Genrobotics has secured an ₹80 crore contract with Singapore’s water authority to deploy 44 robots for cleaning & inspecting sewer networks over the next two years. The company beat over 600 global firms following an 18-month evaluation. This was particularly satisfying news for me because I invested in them in 2020. And I invested because I was moved by the fact that their motive for starting the company was to create the ‘Bandicoot,’ for ridding the country of manual scavenging. This was not a goal that would deliver them a fast path to an IPO and sky-high valuations & make them extraordinarily rich. But it was a goal that would have a dramatic social impact. Our municipalities were not just robbing workmen of their dignity, but putting their lives at risk. The Bandicoot robot would rectify that. So, to paraphrase Robert Frost: They took the path “…less traveled by / And that has made all the difference” In other words, they created a purpose-led company And the news of their win in Singapore was gratifying because it signals that purpose and profits are not at odds with each other. (Since that win, they also have won a ₹17 crore tender from the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) for the deployment of its advanced Bandicoot Mobility+ robotic sewer cleaning systems.) Startups like Genrobotics that are created with a higher Purpose, are my #MondayMotivation

In Thiruvananthapuram stands the Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple, where architecture meets astronomy. On equinoxes, the setting sun aligns precisely with the temple’s structure, appearing through a sequence of windows in timed intervals, an event often described as “Suryasmaranam.” Built centuries ago, but it reflects a sophisticated understanding of solar movement, geometry and orientation. Comforting that science and spirituality weren’t separate pursuits. They coexisted, and often reinforced each other. I’m putting this firmly on my own urgent bucket list: to be there on one of the two equinox days. I missed the spring equinox just this past friday. But I have two chances every year. Calendar marked. #SundayWanderer

Shocking Incident!! This is a dark chocolate from NOICE. Do you notice anything unusual? Look closely... a piece of glass One of my followers @Pras_SwiftMojo ordered this dark chocolate from Instamart (Swiggy’s brand NOICE). While he was eating it, he broke a piece to give to his child. The child immediately returned it, saying something had pricked him. To his absolute shock, there was a piece of glass embedded inside the chocolate. This is extremely concerning and unacceptable; food safety should never be compromised. Shameful

As a food technologist myself, who has worked in Food Safety & Quality at one of the world's biggest MNCs, let me tell you exactly how serious this is and why heads should roll. Every glass surface in a food production facility should be numbered & logged. Every single tube light should have a shatterproof covering. This isn't optional. This is baseline GMP. Glass inside a chocolate bar means one of two things: -Foreign body entered the machinery before the production run and production line not checked prior to the run or -Something shattered during the run and nobody caught it Both scenarios represent a catastrophic breakdown of process control. The moment glass contamination is suspected, or someone later on finds anything broken, you stop the line. You conduct RCA,reconcile every single fragment. If even one piece is unaccounted for-you destroy the batch or recall the quantity of the batch you suspect would be contaminated. The entire thing even additional to ensure safety, Non-negotiatiable this is. The deeper problem? This shouldn't have reached a consumer in the first place. Glass is a known physical hazard, it must be explicitly addressed in the facility's HACCP study which is a food safety study for ensuring food that is produced is safe to consume. If a chocolate bar with glass inside reached retail shelves, this means that HACCP either doesn't exist, was never validated, or completely failed at verification. This isn't a quality complaint. This is a food safety incident. And it needs to be escalated because this might put someone's life at risk. @Pras_SwiftMojo @pointperkspicks @DealsDhamaka #glass
