Turn the Lights Back On currentaffairs.org/news/turn-the-… Just came across this article. Can all this possibly be true? Patients on ventilators dying in hospitals? Truly beyond belief. (Why, I wonder, is it necessary to ban trade w Cuba when we trade w China? Aren't both Communist run?)

From a verse in the Bible, to a map, to strategy, to action, Greater Israel has stopped being just a concept.

NEW: Pope Leo XIV urged a ceasefire in the Middle East this morning, calling the war “a scandal for the entire human family.” The first American pope has challenged President Trump over his military aggression against Iran for nearly the entirety of his pontificate. thelettersfromleo.com/p/a-scandal-fo…

In July 1944, Catherine Dior, the sister of future designer Christian Dior, was arrested in Paris for her role in the French Resistance. Born in 1917, Catherine grew up in a hilltop home in Granville, Normandy, surrounded by gardens overlooking the English Channel. After her mother’s sudden death and her father’s financial collapse during the Great Depression, her life changed dramatically. When Nazi forces occupied France in 1940, Catherine was 23 and ready to fight. In 1941, Catherine met Hervé des Charbonneries in Cannes. She joined the F2 Resistance network as a courier and intelligence gatherer, carrying secret messages by bicycle across occupied territory, risking her life. Meetings were even held inside her brother Christian’s Paris apartment. By late July 1944, as the Nazi occupation began to collapse, she was seized by the Gestapo and deported to Nazi concentration camps, enduring unimaginable brutality. They tortured her in a bathtub filled with ice for hours, nearly drowning her. She never spoke a single world. Meanwhile, Christian fought to secure her release. As Allied bombing intensified, the prisoners were uprooted again. In April 1945, thousands were driven into brutal death marches across collapsing Nazi territory. Weeks later, starving and gravely ill, she was finally liberated. She was honored with the Croix de Guerre (Cross of War) and the Croix du Combattant Volontaire de la Résistance (Cross of the Resistance Volunteer Combatant) from France; the Cross of Valour from Poland; and the King’s Medal for Courage in the Cause of Freedom from Britain. Catherine returned to Provence with Hervé, who became her partner. She devoted the rest of her life to her love of flowers. Christian established his namesake fashion house. He unveiled his first collection in February 1947. Part of the collection was his first perfume, Miss Dior, a tribute to Catherine and their love of flowers. After her brother’s sudden death at 52 in 1957, Catherine devoted herself to preserving his legacy. She founded the Musée Christian Dior in Granville and served as its honorary president until her passing in 2008 at age 90. #WeRememberThem #WomensHistoryMonth

Is it the Democrats' job to reopen DHS, or is it the job of ALL who serve in Congress--Republicans and Democrats alike--to actually listen to each other and figure out how to compromise? How about better training for DHS so they don't injure and kill people?
Sen. Marsha Blackburn@MarshaBlackburn

President Trump has every right to send ICE agents to airports since Democrats are refusing to do their job and reopen DHS. Our homeland security is not a bargaining chip.

I think Mr. Lee had better read this article by Sam Brodey in the morning's Boston Globe. It's not showing voter I.D. at the polls that's the problem. It's all the other provisions of the bill that Republicans aren't talking about! bostonglobe.com/2026/03/20/nat…

I’m now more convinced than ever that those who are most opposed to the SAVE America Act want to cheat by allowing noncitizens to vote The arguments raised by Senate Democrats are making that increasingly clear

@ronsterd89 Pretend you bought it that way because it's a work of art! (But of course, the kids have to experience some kind of repercussions: A cleaning project; earning money to reupholster the piece. Give them a fence to paint?)

Complying and helping voters comply, would be a massive, complicated undertaking, according to election officials. Amanda Gonzalez, clerk of Jefferson County, Colo. said it could take her office “thousands of hours” of add'l work to get voters reregistered under the proposals.

If the changes require time/money to properly implement, the legislation offers neither. And the bill’s proponents, chiefly Trump, are claiming the changes must take effect for this fall’s elections — even though preliminary contests have already been held in some jurisdictions.

[Another] reason for alarm among election officials: the Republican legislation would also impose criminal penalties on election workers accused of running afoul of the complex new rules.
