At 1 year after discharge from TAVR, 26.4% of highly frail patients were hospitalized for >2 weeks and 15.6% were dead. By contrast, only 10.8% of low frailty patients were hospitalized >2 weeks and 5.8% were dead.

@drjohnm One could further argue that a negative outcome control should be done. If there is an association, something is wrong (although immediately diverging Kaplan-Meier in itself is a pretty strong hint).

In observational studies, when Kaplan-Meier curves diverge immediately for a therapy that takes much longer to exert its effect, perhaps we should think about biased comparisons Maybe, just maybe, healthier people got one of the treatments Sol'n = randomization

In a Danish nationwide cohort, undergoing #TAVR was not assoc. w/ an increased risk of nursing home admission vs general population. Approx. 2 out of 3 patients aged >85 were still alive & not admitted to a nursing home 3 yrs after TAVR. bit.ly/3kMlYK8 #JACCINT

Factors associated with nursing home admission were ⬆️age, ⬆️frailty, living alone, and atrial fibrillation. These are important, encouraging news to be shared with patients undergoing TAVR.

In fact, among TAVR patients aged >85 years, approximately two out of three patients were still alive and not admitted to a nursing home three years after TAVR.
