🫀🧬Cholesterol remnants and the heart – A Wiley Echocardiography publication Emilie Galatius led a population-based study in collaboration with @CTCPR_ that included 3,792 individuals without known heart disease. Some of the key findings showed that higher remnant cholesterol levels were associated with impaired systolic & diastolic function (↓ LVEF, ↓ GLS, ↓ E/A). Notably, the association was stronger than for LDL. 📄Full study: onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/ec… @TorBiering @CopCard @RigsHeart @HGHHjerte @Stenodiabetes @niklasdj1 @KristofferSkaar @matslassen

🫀 New insights into cardiac risk in sickle cell anemia. Published in @AjHematology In a study led by Theo Simon, using data from the French Etendard cohort in collaboration with @CTCPR_, early diastolic dysfunction was identified as a strong prognostic marker. In young SCA patients, lateral e′ <11 cm/s was linked to a 4× higher 12-year mortality. Important step toward better risk stratification. 📄Full study: onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/aj… @TorBiering @CopCard @RigsHeart @HGHHjerte @Stenodiabetes @niklasdj1 @KristofferSkaar

🫁📐DAN-RSV – Rationale & Design. A @AmericanHeartJ publication RSVpreF protects against RSV disease — but does it reduce severe RSV and cardiorespiratory hospitalizations in older adults? @matslassen and colleagues from @CTCPR_ designed DAN-RSV to answer this. Up to 130,000 adults ≥60y randomized 1:1 to RSVpreF vs no vaccine. Pragmatic. Registry-based. Nationwide digital recruitment. A real-world RCT built to inform future vaccination policy. 📄 Study link: sciencedirect.com/science/articl… @TorBiering @CopCard @RigsHeart @HGHHjerte @Stenodiabetes @niklasdj1 @KristofferSkaar

🦠📐DANFLU-2 – Rationale & Design A paper by @niklasdj1 and colleagues from @CTCPR_ - now published in @AmericanHeartJ High-dose flu vaccines reduce lab-confirmed influenza — but do they prevent serious respiratory and cardiovascular hospitalizations in the general older population? DANFLU-2 was designed to answer exactly that. 332,438 adults ≥65y randomized 1:1 to high- vs standard-dose vaccine. Pragmatic. Registry-based. Fully powered for hospitalization endpoints. A next-generation, care-embedded trial built to inform real-world policy. 📄Full study: sciencedirect.com/science/articl… @TorBiering @CopCard @RigsHeart @HGHHjerte @Stenodiabetes @RebeccaCHarris @KristofferSkaar @fdavidovski_MD

Influenza is a well-established trigger for HF , increasing risks of hospitalization, and death. Evidence from RCTs support flu vaccination as a low-cost, scalable strategy to improve outcomes, yet uptake remains suboptimal worldwide (link.springer.com/article/10.100…). #HREV @TorBiering

🦠👵Does frailty reduce the benefit of high-dose flu vaccination? A publication in @JIDJournal New analysis by @Espersen_C and colleagues from @CTCPR_ compared high-dose vs standard-dose influenza vaccine — stratified by frailty (HFRS) in 12,477 adults (65–79y). 👇 Key findings: 1. High-dose reduced pneumonia/influenza hospitalizations. No significant interaction → benefit was consistent across frailty levels. 2. Recurrent hospitalizations were also lower with high-dose — again regardless of frailty. 3. Mortality told a different story: All-cause mortality was reduced only in the low frailty group. Frailty significantly modified this association. 📌 Takeaway: High-dose influenza vaccination lowers serious respiratory hospitalizations even in frailer older adults — but survival benefit may depend on baseline vulnerability. 📄See full article: academic.oup.com/jid/article/23… @TorBiering @CopCard @RigsHeart @HGHHjerte @Stenodiabetes @niklasdj1 @AM_reimer @KiraJanstrup @RebeccaCHarris

🧪📱Can home self-swabs + digital symptom tracking work in large trials? A publication from Journal of Patient-Reported Outcomes (@ISOQOL) @fdavidovski_MD and colleagues from @CTCPR_ showed in the DANFLU-2 HomeSwab PRO substudy (≥65y), that most participants found self-swabbing easy (66%) and preferable to clinic visits (79%). Furthermore, 86% completed daily symptom tracking, and >96% of samples were high quality. Takeaway: Decentralized infectious disease monitoring is feasible at scale — even in older adults. 📄Study link: link.springer.com/article/10.118… @TorBiering @CopCard @RigsHeart @HGHHjerte @Stenodiabetes @RebeccaCHarris @niklasdj1 @KristofferSkaar

🧠💊Is vaginal estrogen safe after ischemic stroke? Published in Stroke @American_Heart Kimia Ghias Haddadan conducted in collaboration with @CTCPR_ a nationwide study of >56,000 women with prior stroke, where they concluded that vaginal estradiol tablets were not associated with increased risk of recurrent ischemic stroke, across current, recent, or past use. This suggests that local estrogen therapy may be safer than systemic therapy in this high-risk population. 📄See full article: ahajournals.org/doi/10.1161/ST… @TorBiering @CopCard @RigsHeart @HGHHjerte @Stenodiabetes @matslassen @niklasdj1 @KristofferSkaar
