🫀How much of the cardiac risk in psoriasis patients with MASLD is driven by the liver disease itself — and how much by underlying cardiometabolic risk factors? New study by @dons_maria and colleagues from @CTCPR_, published in @JInternMed, examined cardiac structure/function and MASLD in 255 adults with psoriasis. Key findings 👇 ✔️MASLD was linked to worse cardiac function and adverse cardiometabolic profiles ✔️After adjustment, BMI and diabetes were independently associated with myocardial dysfunction 💡Highlights the importance of cardiometabolic risk factor control in psoriasis patients with MASLD. 🫀Can advanced strain imaging improve risk stratification after CABG? New study by @fdavidovski_MD and colleagues from @CTCPR_, published in the International Journal of Cardiovascular Imaging, examined layer-specific GLS in 641 CABG patients using speckle-tracking echocardiography. Key findings 👇 ✔️Reduced GLS across all myocardial layers was linked to higher mortality ✔️Epicardial GLS remained independently prognostic even after EuroSCORE II adjustment ✔️Layer-specific GLS was associated with HF/CV death outcomes 💡Advanced echocardiographic strain imaging may add important prognostic value after cardiac surgery. 🎓Congratulations to our newest PhD, @matslassen! On Friday (15/05/26), Mats successfully defended his PhD thesis titled: "Effect of Respiratory Syncytial Virus Vaccination on Cardiorespiratory Hospitalizations - From observational data to randomized evidence: Insights from a registry-based cohort study and a pragmatic randomized clinical trial” Mats's PhD focused on RSV, cardiovascular disease, and pragmatic clinical trials, with a particular focus on the DAN-RSV trial - a large-scale pragmatic randomized trial embedded within the Danish nationwide digital health infrastructure. 🫀Are patients with atrial fibrillation better protected with high-dose influenza vaccines? New study by @Espersen_C & @CTCPR_ (@ACCinTouch) using DANFLU-2: - n=332,438 adults ≥65 years - 34,085 (10.3%) with AF - Randomized to high-dose vs standard-dose influenza vaccine across 3 seasons 🔑Key findings: AF patients had markedly higher risks of influenza-related & cardiovascular hospitalizations High-dose vaccine ↓ hospitalizations for: - Cardiorespiratory disease - Influenza (incl. lab-confirmed) - Cardiovascular disease Effects consistent regardless of AF status Greater absolute benefit in AF (NNV ~243 vs ~933 in non-AF) Worth noting: The trial was not powered for the AF subgroup analyses, meaning these findings should be considered hypothesis-generating. 🫀Are CKD patients underprotected during flu season? New study by @katjabartholdy & colleagues from @CTCPR_ using DANFLU-2 (n=332,438; 14% CKD) has been published in the journal of @ACCinTouch Key findings: • HD vaccine ↓ flu/pneumonia hosp. by 16.9% in CKD (vs 0.6%) • ↓ influenza hosp. by 68.6% in CKD • Cardiorespiratory benefits consistent across groups Important context: The trial was not powered for the CKD subgroup analyses, so these findings should be considered hypothesis-generating. 🦠 ESCMID 2026 | Influenza prevention in older adults Older adults remain at increased risk of severe influenza outcomes, including hospitalisation, cardiovascular complications and death. At ESCMID 2026, Dr Filip S. Davidovski presented new data comparing high-dose versus standard-dose influenza vaccination across different severity levels of laboratory-confirmed infection. The findings support the potential value of enhanced vaccination strategies for older and vulnerable populations. Dr Davidovski also highlights the importance of large-scale registry data and digital vaccine platforms in shaping future prevention approaches.
