Grade inflation is a MASSIVE problem, but it is definitely not one that is the fault of teachers. Ever since college has become a business many parents do not concern themselves with actual learning, only the appearance of learning. In many cases if a teacher gives a grade that is actually deserved, they are harassed by parents and administrators. In some cases they even lose their jobs. So, before people jump on and blame the teachers, remember: They have been forced to give people what they wanted.

@gunsnrosesgirl3 That's quite a tilt on the camera. Silly

I get your point, but to be clear, there are not many high schools and very few students that ever get to the level where they are solving that first integral and even fewer that will see the expansion of the second series that you’ve written. Perhaps you should have chosen more appropriate mathematical topics than what you’d find in an undergraduate mathematics class at university.

Here is a brilliant (yet obvious) take on education. Grade inflation is a huge problem. A reason for it, though, that is not talked about is how teachers are not allowed to grade students properly without the consequence of losing their jobs.

@JamesAFurey You are spot on, my friend. Nonsense like this is why so many people don’t take educators seriously.

@Bubblebathgirl You chose to get a degree that was worthless. It's like you bought a Ford for the price of a Ferrari and you want us to pay the difference.

I am on board with 99% of what was said here (except the part about capitalist society.) To be clear, I am a teacher and I am very critical of the profession. The thing that no one will talk about - especially politicians - is BAD PARENTING. The only way to achieve success is a good faith collaboration between expert teachers and parents that are present. Otherwise we are like cops without guns.

2002: Student finishes work 8 minutes before class ends. Turns in paper, grabs their book and reads
2025: Student finishes work. Asks what to do with it (has been the same place for 28 weeks) and then wanders around the room, ignoring the list of things to do on the board (has not changed in 28 weeks), then sits down and stares at a wall. Asks to go to the bathroom. Argues when you say no because the bell is about to ring.

The current state of education. She has a point.

This really is a good idea. I would love for the public at large to see what it is like to teach the children of their respective communities. This is not necessarily a punitive action. It would allow parents and the public at large to see the reality of how today's youth interact with authority.

@TaraBull808 I’m sure these scholars have greatly contributed to the vast body of scientific knowledge.
