My latest for Bloomberg Businessweek: In a tough job market for new grads, a key alternative is less attainable. Grad school, long a fallback, is harder to finance after loan caps in Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill. What that means for the class of 2026: bloomberg.com/news/articles/…

The war with Iran fueled the biggest jump in inflation in nearly 4 years and pushed consumer sentiment to a record low. Economists say this is just the start and the effects will trickle through the economy for months. (w/@gutavsaraiva & @wkubz) bloomberg.com/news/articles/…

But even if the overall unemployment rate stays flat in 2026, Black unemployment could keep trending higher under current conditions, @mlholder999 told me.

Unemployment hit 4.6% in November and economists expect it to remain around that level in 2026, even with solid economic growth. One reason: AI investment is expected to drive GDP growth, without creating many new jobs.

2025 was a tough year for Americans looking for a job, and 2026 doesn't look much better. Unemployment is expected to stay elevated even as the economy keeps growing. bloomberg.com/news/articles/…

Affordability concerns fueled Democratic wins last week. Now 55% of workers fear losing their jobs, per a new Harris Poll for Bloomberg. Republicans are spinning the numbers, but these worries could threaten GOP control of Congress. (w/@hlowenkron)bloomberg.com/news/articles/…

NEW: The longest US shutdown is hitting harder than those before it—costing billions weekly as a fragile economy and inflation fears magnify the fallout from unpaid workers to millions losing food aid. (w/@josyanajoshua)bloomberg.com/news/features/…

Labor Dept official says data collection for the Oct inflation report is paused during the shutdown, so the release will be delayed. That’s standard. Sept’s report was only released because it’s used to calculate the Social Security COLA.

The Fed is flying blind. With the government shutdown cutting off key economic data, officials must decide this month whether to cut rates — without a clear view of the economy. (w/ @msasso) bloomberg.com/news/articles/…
