In the Hebrew of Psalm 23, goodness and mercy do not "follow" us all the days of our lives. That translation is far too bloodless for the verb radaf (רדף), which means "chase" or "pursue." God's mercy doesn't follow us like a good little puppy dog. It hounds us, chases us down, stays hot on our heels, until it radafs us all the way into our Father's waiting arms.

Sometimes your presence is already a challenge to others' old ways of thinking.

Jealousy has a detrimental effect on people. Think of Joseph and his 11 brothers, who sold him to foreign slave traders. Think of Saul, who kept chasing David until the end of his life. Think of Jesus--it was the jealousy of the teachers of the law that drove them to seek a way to crucify him. It is the seed that kills people.
