No hyperbole here: We are all teetering. No one is exempt. If we lose our city’s best restaurants (as we did with beloved @Blackbird_Chi this week), it erodes our attraction as a world class city. If we lose our neighborhood restaurants, it erodes the very fabric of our lives.

@AmyCavanaugh We are sticking to carry out for dinner through Tock but also opened a carry out window, thurs. through sun., 9-1pm.

This is exactly where I am. That means at Chicago mag, we're sticking to covering carryout and other aspects of food in the city and not covering dine-in for at least the next couple of issues.

@davidchang Not enough people are taking about the price of food. Looking at the pricing on offerings by standard-bearers in the industry, for the to go model, that is, it seems like pricing models are maintaining a dangerous status quo.

Restaurants need to imagine that it’s not 2020 but 2035: What would your business look like in 15 years? What style of food and at what price point? What benefits would you want for your employees? We need to try and make this evolution happen now

@SenatorDurbin If we don’t fix the CARES act and pass additional funding to help independent restaurants farmers will have no one to sell food to. The PPP doesn’t work for restaurants forced closed by COVID. Our supply chain won’t be reconnected and our employees won’t go back to work.

Producers of locally-grown food keep our restaurants, schools, and farmers markets fully stocked with food year round. With many of these places closing due to #COVID19, our nation’s local food producers are struggling.

I just paid February’s sales and meals tax, and I have $0.66 left in our restaurant account. I’ll be using money my family has been squirreling away for my daughters college fund to restart things. Wondering if that makes me a monster. Tax deferment could have been something.

@pete_wells They can come and get it if they want but I won’t pay anyone that demands I shut down with zero plan of action. The restaurant community will only survive this if we do things differently. I will not conform to rules that at this point make ZERO SENSE.

Nationally and locally there are funds being created to assist employees and now political action groups being mobilized to ensure representation for a stimulus bill. Can a media outlet organize all the efforts so we don’t create overlap. We need solidarity more than ever ✊🏼
