There is no one to negotiate with. Not because Iran refuses to talk. Because the architecture of Iranian governance after 28 February has no functioning mechanism to make talking binding. Ghalibaf, the Parliament Speaker, rejected ceasefire on 10 March: “We are certainly not seeking a ceasefire. We believe the aggressor must be struck in the mouth. We will break this cycle.” Larijani, the SNSC secretary, denied any US-mediated talks exist on 2 March, calling reports of Omani channels “categorically false.” Khatam al-Anbiya, the joint military command, responded to today’s Bank Sepah airstrike not with a diplomatic channel but with a public warning telling civilians in Bahrain, the UAE, and Kuwait to stay one kilometre from any bank. Three officials. Three rejections. Three different institutions. None of them possesses the constitutional authority to stop the war even if they wanted to. That authority belongs to one office: the Supreme Leader, under Article 110 of the Iranian constitution, which vests sole command over all armed forces in the Leader alone. Ali Khamenei held that authority until 28 February, when he was killed. Before he died, he issued pre-delegated orders to the IRGC’s 31 autonomous provincial commands authorising continued operations. Those orders do not expire upon the Leader’s death. They remain legally binding until a living successor explicitly rescinds them. Mojtaba Khamenei was appointed successor on 8 March. He has not spoken. He has not appeared on camera. He has not issued a single order. State television called him “Jaanbaz of Ramadan,” the designation for a war-wounded veteran. No denial was issued. At his own allegiance rally, the regime produced a life-size cardboard cutout held upright by a handler while hundreds of thousands pledged loyalty to a man who was not in the room. When Khomeini died on 3 June 1989, Khamenei appeared publicly within hours and assumed visible command immediately. No war was active. The transition was smooth because the successor was functional. In 2026, the successor is wounded, silent, and taped to cardboard. The contrast is not political. It is physical. Every ceasefire requires a counterparty who can guarantee compliance across all forces. In a centralised military, that counterparty is the commander-in-chief. In Iran today, the commander-in-chief is cardboard. A ceasefire signed by Ghalibaf binds parliament, not the IRGC. A ceasefire signed by Larijani binds the SNSC, not provincial commanders in Bushehr or Hormozgan. A ceasefire signed by Mojtaba binds no one until 31 autonomous commands recognise his authority, and he has not demonstrated that he possesses the capacity to exercise it. Oman mediated US-Iran nuclear talks as recently as February 2026. The channel exists. What does not exist is a counterparty who can sign a document and guarantee that 31 independent commands with sealed orders from a dead man will comply. The mediator has a phone line. No one on the other end controls the weapons. Oil at $87 is priced against a ceasefire counterparty that does not exist. The IEA’s record reserve release is designed to bridge the gap until negotiations succeed. The negotiations cannot succeed because the office that commands the military is occupied by a man who has not proved he is conscious, let alone commanding. The war is not continuing because Iran chooses to fight. The war is continuing because the doctrine that governs it was designed to make stopping impossible without a functioning Supreme Leader, and the functioning Supreme Leader is the one thing this war destroyed on its first day. What could change this: Mojtaba appears publicly, demonstrates command authority, issues a binding order to all 31 provincial commands, and those commands visibly comply. Let me make this very clear: Big Banks (think JPMorgan Chase, Bank of America, Wells Fargo, etc.) are lobbying overtime to block Americans from getting higher yields on their savings—while trying to block any rewards or perks from being given to customers. These banks, and others, pay rock-bottom rates on standard savings (often 0.01%–0.05% APY), even as the Fed pays them 4% or more. This massive spread fuels record profits, with almost none passed back to their customers / everyday depositors. Today, the banks are desperately targeting crypto/stablecoins, where platforms plan to offer 4–5%+ yields or rewards. The ABA and other lobbyists are spending millions trying to ban or restrict those yields via bills like the Clarity Act, crying “fairness” and using words like "stability"—when it's really about protecting their low-rate monopoly and preventing deposit flight. This is anti-retail, anti-consumer, and straight-up anti-American. Next time you see a big bank dropping billions on a shiny new Midtown Manhattan HQ, you know exactly where that money comes from: the non-existent interest rate they “pay” you!
