The fact is that Gates (and Buffett) have diversified wealth which means no one thing can take them out. They can sell large portions of their wealth and actually realize it. If Musk or Bezos tried to do the same, they would tank their respective stocks and lose a lot of that paper wealth almost immediately.

The richest person in the world isn't Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, or Mark Zuckerberg. It's Bill Gates. If something were to happen to Tesla, Amazon, or Meta, Musk/Bezos/Zuck would lose basically everything. Microsoft could disappear tomorrow and Gates would STILL be worth $130B.
