Here’s what bothers me about the whole Jose Caballero situation: he’s intentionally manipulating the pitch clock. It’s totally unnecessary. If everyone else can follow the rules without incident, why can’t he? #BlueJays50

@scott_rowekamp @Daniele_Media Overall, I agree. Have you considered that NBA referees may be the worst in all of Sports? At least with MLB we have ABS to curb and quantify bad umpiring. But with the NBA? Their last-minute subjective calls will dictate how a game is decided or heavily swayed. Infuriating.

@geschinger @Daniele_Media Re: quick pitching; umpire discretion on if batter is REASONABLY set. I think you're right that at the 8 second mark, the batter is supposed to be engaged and the pitcher can therefore start his wind up. Thanks for replying & making me look at the situation in a different way

@Jaspreet_D @Daniele_Media Isn't quick pitch enforcement something that shows it is not letter of the rule? The pitcher should be able to go as soon as the clock hits 8, but if a batter hasn't looked up yet, they get dinged for a quick pitch. Letter of the rule both ways would work IMO.

@1nvestorGadget @Daniele_Media I think we are all assuming that him waiting until the 8 second mark to engage ALWAYS creates an inherent advantage when it's not necessarily true. Some pitchers may not be affected/care. Just saying, he's playing within the rules and it creates an edge on SOME pitchers.

Ump sucks for sure, and I agree. In fact, I agree with Caballero if he’s doing this to make a point, just like pitchers abused the clock when the rule was first implemented. Still, something may have to change. As a former ballplayer, I’d call it chicken shit if he’s using it to his advantage. He’s within the rules, but deliberately trying to mess with a pitcher’s timing instead of just competing. If you need gamesmanship to create an edge, you’re being a wimp.
