𝐃𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐩𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐞𝐧𝐯𝐢𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐠𝐚𝐦𝐞 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐛𝐥𝐞𝐦𝐬
This is how I see coaching.
Not drills. Not patterns. Not repetition for the sake of it.
I design environments where players:
• Have to think
• Have to adapt
• Have to solve real problems under pressure
Because the game isn’t rehearsed… so why should training be? The game is unpredictable, dynamic and forever changing...therefore we need to design environments that embrace chaos, are representative of the game and provide players with information which they can search for and discover their own solutions
My 4C approach is built on :
• CHOICES - players have decisions to make, problems to solve
• COMPETITION - game is competitive, duels, methods of scoring, points/goals
• CHALLENGE - individual or team tasks that are personalised experiences
• CLARITY - connection to the 'why', how it relates to their needs
Clarity drives behaviour. Behaviour drives performance.
Everything I do is grounded in:
• Game-like, representative design
• Constraints-led approach that shape decisions, not dictate actions
• Feedback that guides attention, not gives answers
This is about developing intelligent, adaptable footballers who can perform in real game moments.
If you want to see how this looks in practice, I’ve shared real session examples across different levels, including professional environments at international level and club level:

𝐇𝐢𝐠𝐡 𝐏𝐞𝐫𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 & 𝐆𝐚𝐦𝐞 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬
Having spent six months, every day coaching to win football matches and develop players, in a high intensity, performance environment…and then spending a similar amount of time out of it…I’ve had space to think and reflect.
• To study the game.
• To analyse the highest levels.
• To reflect, challenge, and research.
And this is what I’ve come up with.
A model that captures how I want teams to attack with intention to win.
𝑨𝑻𝑻𝑨𝑪𝑲𝑰𝑵𝑮 𝑰𝑵𝑻𝑬𝑵𝑻𝑰𝑶𝑵𝑺
Where problems emerge. Where players solve them.
The game is not about patterns.
It’s about 𝒑𝒍𝒂𝒚𝒆𝒓𝒔 𝒔𝒆𝒂𝒓𝒄𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒔𝒐𝒍𝒖𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒔 within constantly changing constraints.
So instead of scripting actions…we design environments that shape behaviour.
Football is about gaining an edge. Manipulating & exploiting space through purposeful disruption.
We want to help teams "Create uncertainty in the box" where defenders don't know what to expect, as this creates chaos and opportunities to pass, run and finish with disguise & surprise
If you’re serious about:
• Developing intelligent players and problem solvers
• Coaching within the reality of the game
• Moving beyond drills and patterns
Then this is the direction.
Want to go deeper into how to actually coach this?
Reply “Coach” and I’ll send you a discounted link to CoachesClubhouse, where I break down these ideas into session design, practice examples, and real application.
