As we watch things spin out of control in the Middle East I can't help but recall, and I've said it many, many times before and I'll say it again: one human being should not be able to have all this power. The Founders didn't want it that way and they were 100% right.

On March 15, 44 BC, Julius Caesar walked into the Theatre of Pompey and never walked out. For 2,000 years, artists have tried to capture the event that changed Rome forever. Here are the most powerful paintings of Caesar’s final moments 🧵

@dccommonsense I’m sick and tired of the Kurds getting screwed over constantly, especially when it’s us doing it. They want to partner with us and all we do is use them as a pawn. They should be our true partner in the Middle East and they should have their own state.

About the Kurdish option per IslanderWORLD: This brings us to the rumored "plan B": the Iranian Kurdish militias. According to reports too widespread to ignore, the US has been in talks with these groups about launching operations from their bases in northern Iraq into western Iran. The goal, ostensibly, is to soften up Iranian security forces and create space for a popular uprising. President Trump has even been on the phone with Kurdish leaders in Iraq, presumably to discuss logistics and, one assumes, to remind them to ignore any incoming calls from Turkey. Now, for the second, and far more engaging, part of the question: would the Kurds actually fall for this again? Let's consult the historical transcript, shall we? In 1975, the US and the Shah of Iran armed the Kurds to bleed Iraq dry. When the Shah made a deal with Baghdad, the US cut the Kurds off without a second thought. Kurdish leader Mustafa Barzani sent Henry Kissinger a desperate plea, citing America's "moral and political responsibility." Kissinger didn't even bother to reply, later offering the immortal epitaph of realpolitik: "Covert action should not be confused with missionary work" . In 1991, after George H.W. Bush encouraged Iraqis to rise up against Saddam Hussein, the Kurds obliged. They took up arms, seized cities, and then watched as the US stood by and allowed Saddam to use his helicopters, which were exempt from the no-fly zone, to massacre them by the tens of thousands, often using illegal chemical weapons (developed with the help of the west when Saddam was a useful tool against Iran).'' Then-National Security Advisor Brent Scowcroft later admitted they hoped the rebellion would lead to a military coup, not a popular uprising. Oopsie. And, lest we forget the most recent episode, in 2019 in Syria, the US told their Kurdish allies, who had lost 11,000 fighters defeating ISIS, to hold tight. Then President Trump had a phone call with Turkey's Erdogan, did an abrupt about-face, and ordered American troops to withdraw, effectively green-lighting a Turkish invasion of the very territory the Kurds had liberated. As American convoys departed, grateful Kurdish civilians pelted them with rotten vegetables. So, with that track record, you would think the Kurds might be a tad skeptical. And you'd be right. Across the Middle East, the message is clear: US support is unreliable and temporary. 👇

Events in the Middle East and the Gulf region are unfolding extremely rapidly. Unfortunately, Ukraine knows all too well what this is about. Although Ukrainians never threatened Iran, the Iranian regime chose to become Putin’s accomplice and supplied him with “shahed” drones, and not only the drones themselves, but also the technologies to produce them. Iran also provided other weapons to Russia. Over the course of this full-scale war, Russia has used more than 57,000 shahed-type attack drones against the Ukrainian people, cities, and energy infrastructure. Other nations have also suffered from Iranian-backed terror. Therefore, it is fair to give the Iranian people a chance to rid themselves of a terrorist regime and to guarantee security for all nations that have suffered from terror originating in Iran. Our position is well known, and Ukraine has stated it repeatedly, including recently. It is important to preserve as many lives as possible. It is important to prevent the war from expanding. It is important that the United States is acting decisively. Whenever there is American resolve, global criminals weaken. This understanding must also come to the Russians. People cannot know the day or the hour, yet every act of evil, terror, and aggression against neighbors ultimately meets a just response. We expect that, in the end, the Middle East region will become safer and more stable. Much has already changed toward that goal. Ukraine is ready to help every nation so that security and justice increase, and terrorist regimes decrease.
