Former COA and Comelec commissioner Atty. Rowena “Bing” Guanzon is awaiting Palace Press Officer Claire Castro’s response after calling her out over Castro’s mocking of Sen. Pia Cayetano’s emotional Senate moment. The issue began after Castro, a PCO undersecretary who leads Malacañang press briefings, appeared to mimic Cayetano during a livestream, following the senator’s emotional reaction to the May 13 Senate shooting scare and Sen. Risa Hontiveros’ “parang walang nangyari” remark.
Guanzon defended Cayetano, saying the senator cried out of anger and frustration after people inside the Senate were left terrified by the incident. She also made the issue personal by pointing out that Cayetano is her sorority sister, then publicly challenged Castro to answer.

Vice Mayor Atty. Harold Respicio of Reina Mercedes, Isabela unleashed a furious response against NBI Director Melvin Matibag after the bureau moved to investigate him over social media posts allegedly linked to inciting sedition and rebellion. Respicio blasted the NBI chief with an expletive-filled message, calling him “a f**king large piece of s**t.”
The controversy erupted after the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center filed complaints before the NBI over Respicio’s online remarks, with authorities considering charges ranging from inciting sedition to unlawful utterances.
This follows Matibag’s actions against free speech and free press involving PGMN, whose founder and CEO Franco Mabanta, along with four associates, were framed in an extortion plot orchestrated by former House Speaker Martin Romualdez meant to censor any news that would expose his plundering of the Philippines.

DUTERTE TO REMAIN IN DETENTION
#BREAKING: The ICC Trial Chamber III has decided that former president Rodrigo Duterte should remain in detention.
In an eight-page decision dated May 22, the trial judges said there is a real and substantial risk that Duterte “could abscond or obstruct justice either on his own or through his associates.”
“The Chamber finds that the Accused’s physical condition and cognitive capacities referred to by the Defence do not constitute factors which outweigh the risks outlined above,” the ruling read.
Nicholas Kaufman, Duterte’s former defense counsel, earlier said that the former president’s supposed deteriorating condition constitutes a change of circumstance that could warrant his release from detention.
But the trial judges noted the previous examination conducted by court-appointed medical experts, “whose reports… do not contain any information that warrants modifying the Accused’s detention.”
“The Chamber further observes that the Defence’s and the Registry’s Observations do not present information that constitute new facts or a change in circumstances in comparison to the information provided in the Panel’s Reports,” the ruling added.
The trial judges also cited Duterte’s refusal to attend his confirmation hearings, saying his statement that he does not recognize the court’s jurisdiction “demonstrates at its lowest that the [he] will not comply with any orders that might be made in respect of a release from custody.” | @jvrmateo

REKLAMO VS. RESPICIO

Jesus Falcis and claims from his “tweety birds” are facing criticism after Redditors accused his political leaks of being largely unverified, inconsistent and harmful to public discourse.
A viral post on the r/Philippines subreddit sparked debate among Redditors, who described his posts as reckless and confusing, especially during serious issues involving Senate power plays, arrest rumors and political negotiations, where Filipinos need verified facts rather than clout-driven “scoops” that blur the line between commentary and misinformation.
Critics said many of his claims either failed to materialize, remained unconfirmed or created false hope among followers, while still being treated by some users as breaking news despite relying on unnamed sources and political chismis.

Rodrigo Duterte's new lead defense counsel, Peter Haynes, has asked International Criminal Court Trial Chamber to revisit the issue of the former president’s fitness to stand trial, citing a deterioration in his condition.
“Whilst a determination of Mr. Duterte’s competence was undertaken during the pre-trial phase on the basis of written reports, his condition continues to deteriorate and will need more fully to be reviewed before any trial may commence,” Haynes said.
