@rawsalerts First Arabic numerals then Arabic language. The assimilation is going in the wrong direction
English

🚨#BREAKING: Unconfirmed reports suggest that Zohran Mamdani may be preparing a proposal that would require all New York elementary school students to learn Arabic numerals.

@RutgersAltRoute A5: I think by being someone they can lean on I can help foster their social and emotional needs. My door is always open. Also, having the knowledge to direct them to the appropriate counselor or services is also helpful. #TeacherEd #SafeSchools
English

Students can bully others, they can be bullied, or they may witness bullying. For our final question, think about the social and emotional needs of those involved in bullying #TeacherEd #SafeSchools

English

@RutgersAltRoute A4: HIB presents challenges to students because school no longer is a safe place for them to learn, thrive, and grow. The opportunity for teachers is to model empathetic behavior and also be a cornerstone in promoting safety within the school. #TeacherEd #SafeSchools

Reflect on your knowledge and understanding of harassment, intimidation, and bullying (HIB) from course readings and your experience to respond to Question 4 #TeacherEd #SafeSchools

English

@RutgersAltRoute A3 I communicate through email and parentsquare. It's been effective at giving valuable information. I communicate with colleagues since many of us share the same students. This information is valuable since it gives me heads up to any potential conflict. #TeacherEd #SafeSchools

During last Saturday's #EdTech chat, it was noted that technology can foster collaboration. For Question 3, share your practices (high-tech and low-tech) for collaborating with families and colleagues to create a safe learning environment for all students #TeacherEd #SafeSchools

English

@RutgersAltRoute A2: Clear expectations from the start of the year. Maintain proximity throughout the class. Most importantly, build those relationships. You can be a chill teacher, however, you can't be relaxed when boundaries are crossed. It must be addressed every time #TeacherEd #safeschools
English

For Question 2, reflect on the materials you’ve read and your professional experience. Consider sharing factors that may be specific to your content area and grade level #TeacherEd #SafeSchools

English

@RutgersAltRoute A1: I lead with compassion and treat all my students the same. It doesn't matter to me whether you're producing or not. I'm still going to be a mentor you can lean on, if called upon. Also, I like crack jokes and riff so there's a lot of joy in the class. #teacherEd #safeschools
English

To start us off, here's Question 1! When considering your "practices", you can think about your classroom management, curriculum, instructional practices, the academic/social/emotional skills you teach, and the physical/virtual space of your classroom #TeacherEd #SafeSchools

@RutgersAltRoute A5: I primarily use email or Parentsquare to communicate and engage with student families. It's much easier for all parties involved and I do a job of keeping the families up to date. #TeacherEd #EdTech
English

For our 5th and final question, we want to hear your ideas for engaging students' families. Consider what you already do or what you want to try next year to connect learning and form partnerships with families that can impact student success. #TeacherEd #EdTech

English

@RutgersAltRoute A4: Many benefits including the ease of use of google classroom for assignments, grades, etc. The challenge is attention. Social media is addicting. Without regulation towards youth social media consumption, we're at the mercy of the apps. #TeacherEd #EdTech
English

Technology has become an integral part of teachers' professional practice. For Question 4, let’s explore the benefits and unique challenges that educators must navigate. Consider any that may be specific to your content area and grade. #TeacherEd #EdTech

English

@RutgersAltRoute A3: Collaboration with colleagues through tech is mainly via email, phone, zoom, and in google sheets or docs. Google sheets and docs are big ones because there will be school wide docs that need all teachers to collab together. #TeacherEd #EdTech
English

For Q3, consider the role of technology in your collaboration practices with colleagues, both within your school & through professional organizations. Collaboration is an opportunity for teachers to seek advice, wisdom, & assistance from their fellow educators. #TeacherEd #EdTech

English

@RutgersAltRoute @EDtheScienceGuy @MsAshleyShanley @mskb26 @techcoachjuarez Befriend your tech people. That rapport you give to the students? Give that same warm approach to them. It will help you. Thanks Norm!
English

Our panelists know schools have different levels of on-site technical support available. Please share any tips or suggestions for how teachers, especially ones newer to a school, could reasonably ask for help.
@EDtheScienceGuy @MsAshleyShanley @mskb26 @techcoachjuarez
English

@RutgersAltRoute A2: Some barriers I've experience include basic use of hardware and software from how to save documents to how to shut down a computer, etc. I take the time 1 on 1 to go through the individual steps for a particular action. #TeacherEd #EdTech
English

Ts and Ss may be used to seeing laptops and tablets in schools but research indicates that adequate preparation and training are key factors in the adoption & effectiveness of educational technology. For Question 2, we want to hear your experiences. #TeacherEd #EdTech

English

@RutgersAltRoute A1: I constantly use technology. Google classroom, Socrative, chromebooks, desktops, Canva, Google Suite, Microsoft Office, Smartboards, email, parentsquare, youtube, etc. Ubiquitous. #TeacherEd #EdTech
English

For Q1, consider your current use of technology in your classroom. Be specific to your content area & grade level.
Remember to use "A1 #TeacherEd #EdTech" in your responses so others will see your tweets as part of the chat.

@AnnaDrapczynski @RutgersAltRoute I'm grateful that I have them, truly. That said, there are quite a few adjustments that need to be made. But hey, it'll be much easier next year! Just gotta get through the first one!
English

@Jayyy12322 @RutgersAltRoute I am developing curriculum myself for 5/6 classes I teach and sometimes I wish I had these hand-me-downs, but most of the time I like being able to create my own. It's just time consuming! #TeacherEd #GrowthMindset

This morning's 5th and final Q is on assessment #TeacherEd #GrowthMindset
“You can enhance or destroy students’ desire to succeed in school more quickly and permanently through your use of assessment than with any other tool you have at your disposal.” – Dr. Rick Stiggins

English

@RutgersAltRoute A4: Some examples of feedback I can use to foster a growth mindset are rewarding improvement over time.
Rewriting resumes for a second time can be a helpful exercise and help them gauge the work needed for the
Task at hand. #TeacherEd #Growthmindset
English

Feedback is a compass for improvement and not all feedback is created equally. For Q4 share your content area and consider your best practices and those you would like to try #TeacherEd #GrowthMindset

English

@RutgersAltRoute A3: I think it’s important to establish consistency. By having a daily self reflection, students can see the change in their mindset as it continues to grow overtime. #TeacherEd #Growthmindset
English

Framing, or how teachers introduce new concepts and tasks to students, is the focus of Q3. Framing can steer students to a fixed or growth mindset. It helps students feel free to be a work in progress as they learn. #TeacherEd #GrowthMindset
