@MSM12345668 @RutgersAltRoute It's so true. Tests are still the standard in my school but I am trying to change these up. It is difficult though since I teach at an advanced high school and these students must know how to test to their AP and IB exams. The struggle is real. #TeacherEd #GrowthMindset.

@RutgersAltRoute So many pieces of the assessment struggle Begins at a young age. By the time they reach high school the students are already anxious about these tests. I have changed a lot Of the assignments to project based learnings.

This morning's 5th and final Q is on assessment #TeacherEd #GrowthMindset “You can enhance or destroy students’ desire to succeed in school more quickly and permanently through your use of assessment than with any other tool you have at your disposal.” – Dr. Rick Stiggins

@RutgersAltRoute A5: Challenges I have faced in my assessments are that they have been handed down from the previous teacher (who retired). There is a great opportunity to enhance assessments with more social-emotional and competency based components. #TeacherEd #Growthmindset

@RutgersAltRoute A5 Clear rubrics created w/students so they understand the goal & can achieve success. Share multiple examples of successful performances. Using daily participation grade for dance allows room for trial, error & growth. #TeacherEd #Growthmindset

@RutgersAltRoute A5: (3/3) I’ve found that not answering that question directly but rather informing them to be active in the class, ask engaging questions, and complete all assignments will help set them up for success. #TeacherEd #GrowthMindset

@RutgersAltRoute A5: (2/3) It is difficult in some settings to promote the growth mindset as students are primarily concerned with what do I need to learn and study in order to get an A on the quiz or test. #TeacherEd #GrowthMindset

@RutgersAltRoute A5: (1/3) These types of assessment practices allow opportunities for feedback, reflection, improvement, and growth. At the school I teach at, students’ primary focus is their grade. #TeacherEd #GrowthMindset

@RutgersAltRoute A4 One on one conferences with students when giving feedback on papers and assessments in my ELA classroom. I usually give a glow and grow. Never saying they do not get something but on the right track to success #TeacherEd #Growthmindset

Feedback is a compass for improvement and not all feedback is created equally. For Q4 share your content area and consider your best practices and those you would like to try #TeacherEd #GrowthMindset

@RutgersAltRoute A4: It is important that students receive timely feedback for the assignments they submit. Feedback, however, is not always numerical. Checking in with students and gauging how they feel (in and outside the classroom) is an essential medium to consider #TeacherEd #GrowthMindset

@RutgersAltRoute A4: Being that I am a science teacher I tell my kids that they must must must have pencils in my class because they have erasers and as a scientist you are going to be wrong way more than you are going to be right. Science is all about trial, error, a little bit of luck#TeacherEd

@KGainerteacher @RutgersAltRoute I think this is so important and I've been trying to improve my own turnaround time for feedback to make it more relevant for my students. As teachers its challenging to get everything done within the day, but I have been prioritizing feedback. #TeacherEd #GrowthMindset

@RutgersAltRoute A4: The purpose of feedback is to improve a Ss performance and advance them towards the goal. Feedback NEEDS to be meaningful, specific, given in a positive tone + given as soon as possible to help Ss with their learning.  #TeacherEd #GrowthMindset

@RutgersAltRoute A4: Feedback is a powerful tool. It provides students with valuable information about progress, strengths, and areas for improvement. One way I do this in my classroom is by validating effort, identifying areas for improvement, and encouraging practice. #TeacherEd #GrowthMindset

@RutgersAltRoute A3: I always try to stress to students the importance of their mindset. I have used the quote "whether you say you can or you can't, you're right". When students are feeling defeated or frustrated, I will take time to address these feelings before even discussing the material...

Framing, or how teachers introduce new concepts and tasks to students, is the focus of Q3. Framing can steer students to a fixed or growth mindset. It helps students feel free to be a work in progress as they learn. #TeacherEd #GrowthMindset

@RutgersAltRoute A3 Make sure to not say something is wrong but instead on the right track when asking questions in my classroom. I can allow students to make attempts on assignments and classwork so that they can track their progress and not feel like they have one shot #TeacherEd #Growthmindset

@RutgersAltRoute Teachers can promote a growth mindset by always planning the next task for every student, using language of praise that’s directed at the effort/persistence, as well as rewarding the thinking process instead of only seeking out the “right answer” #AltRtEd #GrowthMindset

@SocciJoseph @RutgersAltRoute Yes! This is extremely important. All my worksheets and homework assignments are not graded for correctness, but rather completeness. I give students full credit if they show me they tried and together in class we go through all responses. #TeacherEd #GrowthMindset

@RutgersAltRoute A2. It's important to give students time to learn without fear of a bad grade. For example, when teaching genetics, I make sure students have a chance to practice solving problems in groups and individually before they are graded on their work. #TeacherEd #GrowthMindset #scichat

@RutgersAltRoute A1. The power of messaging is crucial. Educators should be mindful of their messaging with young students by praising them as it can help determine a student’s academic growth in either a positive and productive way or in a more stagnant manner. #TeacherEd #GrowthMindset
