You could: - Move to Rothenburg ob der Tauber, Germany - Build a startup to €3k MRR - Pay €700 for rent - Pay €300 for fresh foods at the market - Have €2k left over for fun, entertainment, clothes, vacations, bicycles, and taxes Why aren't you doing this?

@martinvars Mistral is #1 for compliance and energy efficiency. Fat American models using stolen EU data. Also we in Europe don't need AI, we have HI.

Europe’s best AI model, Mistral Large, ranks 74th in the world. Why does Europe do so poorly? Three words: capital, energy, permitting. US labs spend 10x more on compute, pay half the electricity price, and build datacenters in months, not years. Europe produces great researchers then watches them leave for Silicon Valley. Absurd Regulatory and energy policy have consequences.

New social housing in Paris vs. new social housing in Chicago The Paris social housing building was erected in 10 days using a mass timber kit, delivering six units and a community space at $170k/unit excluding land (but it was built on a 1000sqft lot, so land use was EFFICIENT) The proposed Chicago project will be over $600k/unit, which is pretty low by recent Chicago social housing standards. Anyone's bet how many years it will take to finish.

It’s obviously a shame that OpenAI have paused some of their data centre investment here in the UK, and high energy prices need to be tackled for everybody - from household bills to heavy industry and AI. But the UK, as is this case with many other countries, is not the natural home for many gigafactory-scale DCs aimed at huge training runs. While we must have this capacity to some degree ( and you can apply now to SovAI’s AIRR compute programme to access it! ), DCs of Stargate size are probably best suited to cold countries or areas with extremely cheap domestic energy supply, and perhaps one day space. What the UK must do is be the best place for companies in areas of AI where we have abundant strengths to start and scale - novel chips, heterogenous compute systems, edge inference, photonics, new model architectures, frontier models in biology, chemistry, physical sciences, voice, embodied AI, advanced engineering in robotics, agent security. The list goes on. I hope the companies building in those sectors get the same press coverage for each of their technical breakthroughs & commercial milestones as this OpenAI story has got!

Spain has already granted permits for 129 GW of wind and solar power. France has approximately 63 GW of installed nuclear capacity. Two different models. One same European challenge: generating clean energy is not enough. We need grids, storage, and the flexibility to transmit it. The European energy transition isn't decided solely in megawatts. It's decided in terms of infrastructure.

Exciting chat with a European AI researcher this morning. She told me about the latest model coming from her lab - 2.1m params, trained on 8 RTX 2060s. Training fully powered by on site windmill. Americans chase numbers. Europe delivers sustainability.

Oh boy, where does one even begin? With the fact that you have created AI regulation before any noteworthy AI INVENTION came out of Europe and actually boast about it? Or the fact that you seem completely oblivious of the fact that not only the EU is not only „not winning“ the AI race but is not even competing in it? Or that you literally claim to have „deployed factories“ - in what system is the government deploying factories? We‘ll give you a hint: it begins with an „s“ and ends with poverty and slavery every. single. time.

This is interesting, Europe is building the infrastructure for AI, but the next layer will be just as critical: measuring how much work AI is actually performing across the economy. As AI becomes part of the workforce, trust, accountability, and policy will depend on that visibility. That’s exactly what we’re building at AnthroMetrics AI.

@StaffanReveman They shut down nuclear without enforcing basic lifestyle constraints to limit electricity usage. Max 4 light bulbs per household, increased tax on refrigerators, metered ovens all would have offset the nuclear.

For 25 years, Germany has heavily subsidized wind and solar—while shutting down nuclear power, its largest source of low-carbon baseload. The result? Germany is now the EU’s second-largest producer of electricity from coal, both lignite and hard coal. Had nuclear been maintained, Germany would rank far lower. This isn’t an energy transition success—it’s a costly, avoidable detour. #energiewende #klimaziel #energiepolitik

Looking for Growth
This is the inevitable consequence when shoplifting becomes legal. Your weekly shop will increase in price. Your detergent will be kept in a plastic box. You will be treated as a suspect. Meanwhile, actual thieves can just walk out of the shop. This is not acceptable.

The US President’s threat to erase an entire civilisation crosses yet another dark line—adding the infamy of war crimes to an already illegal war. Too many civilians in Iran and in the Middle East are suffering death and devastation. This war is shattering global stability and energy security, leaving also European citizens and economies to bear the heavy burden of a crisis they didn't create. We call on the EU institutions to condemn this escalation and deploy all diplomatic efforts to bring this war to an end. We stand in solidarity with Iranians in their quest for freedom and democracy. Their future can only be built through diplomacy, not through more destruction.
