The funny thing about this “wrong” or dumb emoji use is that it actually reveals something I’d already been thinking about for a while: why is the language emoji always tied to the country of origin? like, for English, wouldn’t the 🇺🇸 make way more sense in most cases? and for Portuguese, 🇧🇷 instead of 🇵🇹?

I find it fascinating that our local NY accent is really Dutch accented English and spoken originally by the inhabitants of what was called Breuckelen. The syntax and phonetics are eerily familiar to me as a native speaker, let’s look at some examples given by Jonathan Kruk. “Or else de imp will give him a peg leg” “Dondah-Boig, Youse must tip yer hat ta da heer O’da Dondeh-Boig.” The first sentence contains “de” which is the common local replacement from a “th” sound. The second sentence contains even more evidence, “Boig” is an example of pronunciation that has carried over to the present day in the form of the Dutch “Berg” to the use of “Youse” to denote an individual or 3rd group. Take the use of “da” sound standing in for “the.” Just ask any New Yorker to pronounce “The Bronx” and you’ll find this alive and well. “O’da” is a common local shortened example “of the.” Finally “ta” is a common local replacement for “to.” Dewulf writes at the moment the Dutch language was dying out in New York, there would have been more than 150 years of interaction between the low variety and English. There was a strong accent mentioned in the sources, yet we have no idea what it sounded like. Our best available evidence comes from mid 19th century newspaper articles that are peppered with a clear “d” replacing a “th.” Examples like “dots all,” “if dey,” or “my mudder,” shows clear Dutch influence on the local New York dialect. Phrases are jumbled like “how does you do now-a-tays mit yourself,” creating a creole like “Englutch” throughout the Hudson Valley. So where is that unique NY dialect brewing, it’s going to be the Afro-Dutch mixing with the new waves of immigrants like the Irish or in urban areas from NYC to Albany. Segregated by ethnicity or origin, but mixing where the populations bordered each other, the dialect and accent grew, as the state’s population blossomed by the start of the 20th century.

Facial reconstruction of a 3,600-year-old Mycenaean Greek In the middle of the 20th century, archaeologists discovered in Mycenae Grave Circle B, another royal cemetery that preceded Grave Circle A. The burial complex was discovered accidentally in 1951 when workers were excavating a nearby 13th-century BCE tomb known as the Tomb of Clytemnestra. Grave Circle B consists of 26 graves, dated to 1675–1550 BC, including 14 shaft graves. The shafts, up to 12 meters deep, were marked by burial mounds or stone stelae. The cemetery was probably used for about 100 years. The remains of 35 individuals were found in the graves. The large number of undisturbed graves allowed archaeologists to gain insight into the life of the Mycenaean elite of that time. In the women’s graves, many ornaments were found: earrings, necklaces, and gold and silver pins. Alongside the male skeletons were swords, daggers, and arrowheads; men’s clothing was decorated with gold. In one of the graves, a helmet made entirely of boar’s tusks was discovered. There are more female skeletons than male ones, and overall the female burials are richer. A unique find is a posthumous mask made of electrum, which was not placed on the deceased’s face but kept in a wooden box beside him. Another interesting artifact is a duck-shaped bowl made of rock crystal. Unlike the remains from Grave Circle A, the skeletons from the burials of Grave Circle B are well preserved. The bones of the men show traces of combat injuries, suggesting that some of these individuals likely died in battle. As early as the 1950s, it was suggested that members of several (probably four) noble families were buried in Cemetery B over 3–4 generations. To test this hypothesis, in 1995 anthropologists reconstructed faces from seven skulls found in the burials. Researchers discovered a clear resemblance between two individuals — Z59 and F51 — and divided the seven buried individuals into three groups: “heart-shaped,” “elongated,” and “beak-shaped” faces. In 2008, a genetic study was conducted on 22 skeletons from Grave Circle A. Samples were taken from mandibles and clavicles. Mitochondrial DNA was successfully obtained from four individuals, showing that a man and woman from the same grave (where the posthumous mask was found) were brother and sister. Researchers believe that both men and women of the royal lineage in this ancient society inherited power by right of birth. The skull of an individual from grave Sigma (Σ131) is particularly well preserved. It is the only one in which the lower jaw was present. It is believed that he may have been the founder of the dynasty that established this cemetery, since his grave is one of the earliest in Circle B. There were no pottery or metal objects in his grave, but the burial was marked by a large heap of stones. The anthropologist Lawrence Angel reckoned that he lived to be about 55 years old, judging from the exostoses on his shoulders and feet. Although today these would not be considered precise indicators of age—and his dental age may have been slightly younger than 55—he was still the oldest of all those buried in Circle B. Angel described him as a massively built man, big enough to draw attention in a crowd, and estimated his height at 1.75 m. He suffered from osteoporosis and had a large abscess above the upper right permanent lateral incisor.

“Trump couldn’t contain his surprise and laughed aloud when he was briefed on the intel, according to sources. I get more and more the feeling that this so-called “Islamization” of European countries isn’t going to happen, because some low-IQ or impatient figures are overplaying their hand too quickly by trying to impose their Islamism on a country where they’re only about a 10% minority. Since the overwhelming majority will never accept that, they’re pushing too hard and too fast. They probably could have waited another 20 years, but that would require patience and a higher IQ.

If the King does nothing to challenge this, then he has abdicated his principal responsibility as Defender of The Faith, and as supreme Governor of the Church of England, he cannot remain silent on this any longer! . Perhaps the @churchofengland might now have the guts to admit that they have been very wrong for welcoming worshippers of another religion into their places of worship! I’m waiting for the bishops to admit they were wrong…because they’d better start fighting for the Church in this land…and for the Christians they have maligned and attacked for the last 18+ months…!! If they don’t, then the TREACHEROUS COWARDS MUST BE REMOVED…and the warrior bishops must make a stand for the church again…!! @PhilHs10 @RevBrettMurphy @revwickland @DominicMuir @PrayingPete @btbsoco

Dear pro-war Iranians, Look, I don’t like the regime. My entire extended family is Baha’i. I lived in Iran as an adult and saw the rot and repression first hand. But as a journalist, I also covered Iraq and saw what Americans did to the place. I was in Lebanon when the Israelis were shelling apartment blocks. I witnessed Libya being torn apart after a violent upheaval without any plan. I saw firsthand what happened to Syria when it became a playground for regional and world powers. These countries won’t recover for 30 years. You now have a senile gameshow host and an indicted war criminal launching a war against Iran. They killed a school full of children on day one and sent a toxic cloud over Tehran on week one. They are hitting Unesco sites and apartment buildings filled with bewildered civilians and destroying the country’s economy. They have no plan, or strategy, or internatonal support. Even Americans don’t support the war. Trump and Bibi are gonna smash up a lot of stuff and leave the place a mess, with Khamenei still in charge. Then China will move in and buy up the country cheap, and maybe Russia will get a Persian Gulf base. None of this will lead to democracy. Trump and Bibi don’t even believe in democracy for their own countries. But it also won’t lead to constitutional monarchy or anything decent or normal. It will only lead to ruin, blackouts, water outages, poverty, hunger, lawlessness, and despair. (100% organic writing, no AI) Subscribe to my newsletter borzou.substack.com

Ja he?

Terwijl objectieve berichtgeving zo essentieel is.
