I brought up last year’s Dept of Defense name change back to the Dept of War on a recent news appearance which seems to have caused a great deal consternation in some quarters. It’s something I’ve been thinking about for a long time. After all, precision in language reflects precision in thought, and the job of this department is to be prepared for war and then to wage war when called upon to do so. During the Revolutionary War it was the Board of War and then redesignated the War Department under President George Washington. Following World War II, the name was changed to the Dept of Defense. I wrote about it in op-eds in the aftermath of the disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2021. You might have caught characters discussing it in CRY HAVOC. Am I wrong about this? If so, why? Should this dept concentrate on defense or on waging war? Make your case in comments. What say you? If you're unsure whether to buy silver now at its current prices, just look into history. During the 1979-1980 silver mania, junior mining stocks returned 1,000% to 13,000%. Even the worst performer literally did 233%. So maybe your investment strategy isn't in silver itself but the miners or industries that profit as silver surges?
