@JedKingly Tbf Matt Johnson was recently talking about the amount of effort they put into blending real world interactions with fiction was so obsessive and required so much thought that it would no longer be considered funny, so there is kind of extensive planning to what they’re doing

Finally saw NIRVANNA THE BAND THE SHOW THE MOVIE last night and was totally charmed by it. Hilarious, sweet, and clearly required a baffling level of planning and clever use of old footage. A delight.

The Evil Dead franchise pivoting to having female protagonists works as a way to have more sympathy throughout and get the "final girl" ending (and possibly apologize for the tree in the first) but it could do some good to bring back the relentless bullying that makes Raimis work

@RDR5035 I agree he's not necessary, but he did set the tempo in the first episode of the show, and was still involved throughout. I moreso mean we haven't tried to do this in a film, not that we can't. And that it's nature originates from that dynamic, not that it can't be replicated

@JedKingly I dunno. Plenty of directors managed it throughout Ash Vs Evil Dead. Fair enough it had Bruce Campbell but there are a lot of good actors who could give it a crack now. I don’t think Raimi is strictly necessary

The reason we haven't even tried to replicate the tone of any of the original three is because it's this lightning in a bottle scenario of the director tormenting his best friend. the camera itself is an evil force, and Bruce Campbell is tortured for eternity, and it's funny

@JedKingly However I didn’t like how they sort of dropped the deadites in the last fifteen minutes in favor of the boring CGI fire creature, that and the underwhelming use of the deadite dog are the only parts I didn’t love

@JedKingly Can’t really agree with you here, I really loved how intimidating and cruel they all were, plus I thought the grandma one was hilarious and the girlfriend one was one of the best deadites the franchise. Also really liked how horny the deadites were in this one
