Helicopter Crash in Wasatch County Leaves One Critically Injured; Eyewitness Video Emerges Wasatch County, UT – A Bell 206L-1 LongRanger II helicopter crashed in a remote mountainous area of Wasatch County on Sunday, January 18, 2026, critically injuring one of the four people on board. Newly released eyewitness video has captured the dramatic moments of the incident, showing the aircraft losing control and spinning before impacting trees and terrain. The crash occurred at approximately 3:10 p.m. local time, when the Wasatch County 911 Center received a text-to-911 report of a helicopter down about 100 yards off State Road 35 near mile marker 20, close to Wolf Creek Campground in the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest, near Timber Lakes. Emergency responders, assisted by the Summit County Sheriff’s Office, the Division of Natural Resources, and AirMed, located the helicopter. Four occupants were aboard. One sustained a critical head injury and was airlifted by AirMed to a hospital for treatment. The remaining three were evaluated at the scene and did not require transport. The helicopter, registered as N138DD and manufactured in 1979, is registered to Dalton Aviation LLC, based in Bluffdale, Utah (Salt Lake County). Flight tracking data from ADS-B indicated the aircraft was operating at altitudes ranging from around 5,000 to 10,000 feet with varying groundspeeds prior to the event. Eyewitness video footage, widely shared on social media, depicts the Bell 206 helicopter spinning uncontrollably, lost yaw control, and descended into the wooded, snowy area. The video shows the rapid yaw and impact, consistent with a possible loss of tail rotor effectiveness (LTE). The presence of trees and deep snow is credited with cushioning the fall, likely preventing more severe injuries or fatalities among the occupants. All four survived the crash. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is investigating the cause, with no preliminary determination released as of January 20, 2026. This helicopter was featured in a YouTube video with The Stradman where he showcased it as his “dream helicopter”. It is unknown who was onboard at the time of the crash or if there is any direct connection to TheStradman beyond the video feature. Stby for updates. Video: HeavyDSparks on IG

@SLCScanner In a semi-rigid rotor design (2 blades) the rotor can strike the tail boom and damage/distort and often sever the boom.
