This is sadly the truth Conservatives do not feel the right to rule, they are happy to point out the flaws but have zero interest in assuming power or the responsibility that comes with it
Titus Techera@titusfilm

@AuronMacintyre Conservatives don't want to assume responsibility for America.

@jakewoolf No, but they are more than 1/3rd as good. Which is to say the Aldens are not 3X better. Subjective as to which last you prefer.

I know there’s a lot of Meermin stans out there, so I gotta know—do their $345 shell cordovan loafers really stand up to a pair of $1000 Alden 986s? I’m scared that the answer is yes

It’s (almost) remarkable to witness think tankers descend into post-persuasion crashouts on x. Insults, mocking, goading, pointless arguing, and especially the ego driven need to be right or somehow “win” an exchange with an anonymous interlocutor. All in service of alienating people against their supposed cause. Their clueless donors pay them to do this all day.

The longer I live, the clearer it becomes to me that people will have a religion, or something that plays the role in their lives played by religion in the lives of people of faith. The only question is what religion (or pseudo-religion) they will have, and whether it will be a good one or a bad one--one that upholds human dignity and teaches genuine virtue, or one that does not.

Dear professors & universities: let students use AI at will, but require oral exams to test their actual knowledge. No way to cheat, plus it improves their speaking skills and ability to think on their feet under time pressure. I know this doesn't work with 150 kids in an econ 101 micro seminar. I know this doesn't work for technical math exams & the like. And I know profs love multiple choice tests. All I can say huge classes and multiple choice tests are bad.

This piece from @CRPakaluk @ActonInstitute is very harsh. And I can't pick a single quote, because there are too many "devastating but true" observations. So, look. It's clear to anyone paying attention that the postliberal movement is full of grifters. Lots of unserious people on a joyride, just seizing the moment to claim the political relevance they always thought they deserved. Academics are extremely vulnerable to that temptation, as of course are media people. But I don't think everyone is like that. For instance, there are bright young people who came up through the movement, found positions in various institutions, and now are appreciating some of the problems. Maybe some not-young people who are coming to appreciate how they perhaps got a little overexcited in the heady "down with the rotting-flesh Reaganite" days. This would be a good moment for such people to prove their seriousness by genuinely reckoning with what happened. It's not really enough to "get tired of" the conversation and wander away. Learn from past mistakes. blog.acton.org/archives/12837…

Congresswoman Frederica Wilson (D-FL) has not cast a vote in the House of Representatives since April 17. The 83-year-old lawmaker has now missed more than 40 consecutive roll call votes. As elected officials, members of Congress are expected to maintain transparency with their constituents regarding their ability to fulfill their duties. Where is Rep. Wilson? Hoping she is doing well and will provide an update soon for the people of Florida’s 24th District. (Video: AI)

Thomas Massie has now threatened to sue me on X. I'll formally answer your question: I assert that such an NDA would have done so because it's a reasonable assumption (since most NDAs preclude any public discussion of the termination and related facts) and because my understanding of Ms. West's statements about the NDA implied the same. If you have a copy of the NDA feel free to publish it, and if my assumptions were mistaken I'd be happy to confess error. While you are here, can you answer these questions: 1) Did you have a romantic relationship with Ms. West? 1a) If so, when did it begin and when did it end? 2) Did she break up with you, as she claimed? 3) Did you ask her to move to Washington, DC? 4) Did you ask Rep. Spartz to hire her into her office? 5) Do you know how Ms. Spartz became aware that you two had broken up? 6) When did you become aware that Ms. West had made a wrongful termination complaint? 7) Did you offer Ms. West any money in exchange for her dropping that complaint? Thank you for your attention to this matter!
Thomas Massie for Congress@MassieforKY

@willchamberlain I hope you have good lawyers when this is over. Why do you still assert that the NDA allegedly offered by Spartz office (or House employment office) would have prevented her from talking about me? Perhaps you should clarify that you’re making that part up?

It’s a term of art that made sense in mid century when Mises and Hayek used it to distinguish themselves from the high jacking of “liberal” in the Wilson/FDR era. To distinguish themselves from the Left. Today it’s a stunning and brave cop out to signal anti Trump, anti populist sentiment. To distinguish the self styled classical liberal from the Right.

Most of what people now call "classical liberalism" is neither classical nor liberal. They just mean they're not woke. That's fine. There are also Marxists who are not woke. The fact you're not woke doesn't make you a "classical liberal". Not being woke just means being sane.

I was a kid in the 90s, and by the time I was 12 I had stayed at my friends houses hundreds of nights for sleepovers. My friends stayed with me hundreds of nights for sleepovers. Video games. Making home movies. Snacks. Bewshittin'. My sons are 8 and 12 and neither of them have ever been to a sleepover. Neither of them have ever tried to get one cooking at my house. And don't get me wrong - I do NOT want other kids at my house. But I wouldn't deny my kids the opportunity to make those memories. Are sleepovers just not a thing anymore? What is going on?

@AbbevilleInst It's impossible to take a sledgehammer to "nonsense" when that "nonsense" is truth; just because you don't understand or strawman it doesn't mean it's nonsense.

I haven’t been around racism down south, but I’m white so my experience doesn’t speak for everyone Homophobia is still REALLY bad. F word is basically eradicated in the rest of the country, but it still gets screamed at to players, coaches, and fans at every stadium in the deep south. That’s the biggest adjustment for me
