@Urban_Connector I can actually understand a long delay for unexpected utilities at an earlier stage of the project. IMO - at a late stage of a project nothing should delay the opening by 400%! That said - remember when United bridge would be closed for a few months? Has it been 6 years now?

It’s that time of the month again! beltline.org/blog/atlanta-b… SE trail to (officially) open next month SST to be mainly done by May (?!?!) The federal grant I thought was lost, was actually received for the NE segment over the rail yard

@HowEPhil I road from Midtown High School to Summerhill last night via Juniper St and Peachtree Center because the Beltline on a Friday night is absurd. I had a delightful experience riding Juniper and PCA. Would highly recommend over the Beltline!

Atlanta, join us in celebrating the groundbreaking of Brownsville Pointe in Historic South Atlanta. The project will bring 18 apartments, including 12 affordable homes, plus commercial space for a neighborhood restaurant. Take a look at highlights from the groundbreaking.

@Urban_Connector I’m banking on the main trail being open - but many of the connections to street not being open. They haven’t even started on some of the street connections yet.

I flew it with the drone last weekend and there’s a lot left to be done. I’ll be so happy to be prove wrong here! (Computer issues have really delayed me from getting the full video out!)

I really really want to be proven wrong here but I just can’t see how the Southside Trail could possibly be open in June. The SE trail looked further along than much of the SST a YEAR ago and still isn’t open. beltline.org/blog/atlanta-b…

@1_badkarma @gavin_adams People bring life. Cars destroy street life. You can have people without having cars. Look it up.

At what point do we admit that building highways through the center of our cities was a failed experiment? Our streets in Atlanta are insanely clogged because some folks 70 years ago thought it was a good idea. It wasn’t . Let’s tear them out and move on.

@flotsamandjet You know what would make it worth it? Not having streets clogged by pass through automobile traffic. This part of Atlanta is one of the few walkable / transit friendly parts of town. It shouldn’t be ruined by the highways.

@StopmeifImlying @14655116677A @gavin_adams Folks get from NJ to CT without going through midtown manhattan. It’s not that hard of a concept. The main highway thoroughfare does not need to be (and shouldn’t be ) through the most dense part of the city.

@nmmi68 @JeffDelp Remember the March 30, 2021 underpass collapse? It really fucked up the entire Atlanta metro for the next 6 weeks. How had we still not learn the lesson from that?!

@GS_NickB Actually, during those 6 weeks, my neighborhood next to 75/85 was glorious! Not having all the highway cut through traffic made it a better place to live.

I understand the sentiment and wish I could waive a magic wand and make Atlanta more walkable but tearing down the connector would be a disaster. One section of I-85 caught on fire and the city was strangled for three months. Ship has sailed.

@gavin_adams Not sending highways into the most dense parts of the city. Cars choke off urban life in the downtown vicinity.
