Allow me to walk you through all of these numbers from Rapsheet that make this sound like a bigger deal than it is. Heyward was originally scheduled to earn $14.25M in 2026 with $1.3M being base salary and $12.95M being a mid March roster bonus. The Steelers added on one additional year, 2027. They also added $18M in "new money". $2M of that new $18M goes to Heyward in 2026. That new $2M is being combined with the $12.95M roster bonus and then converted into a signing bonus and prorated over 2026 and 2027, the new year. Heyward's $1.3M base salary for 2026 is also now fully guaranteed. $1.3M + $12.95M + $2M = $16.25M, which Rapsheet appropriately calls "fully guaranteed". So, Heyward goes from earning $14.25M in 2026 to a total of $16.25M in 2026. What about the rest of the new money? The $16M? That is the total of the money that Heyward can earn in 2027, assuming he plays. It is likely broken down as a $1.345M base salary and a $14.655M roster bonus in March of 2027. None of that $16M in 2027 should be fully guaranteed. The new money avg of $18M APY that Rapsheet references is true. As Heyward got one new year and $18M in new money, technically. So, $14.25M (old money) + $18M (new money) = $32.25M total value. Everyone straight now? #Steelers #NFL

Thanks doc! Reports were confusing because I’ve had that procedure before and was back to normal fairly quickly the 1st time. But I was also not an All-Pro NFL OLB. I actually had lung surgery after my second tube, which was very invasive. Doesn’t seem a superhuman even like TJ could come back so soon after a big operation, but now it makes sense.

JJ Watt just confirmed what we had all suspected...that TJ Watt required a drainage tube as part of the treatment for his collapsed lung. (A chest tune to pull the air out and maintain the lung in an expanded state)

Honestly, I’ll feel good when the game is over. Just as many reasons to be optimistic as pessimistic. Really hope we win but won’t be sad if a loss puts this season out of its misery. In reality, the questionable decisions/play calling by the coaches and QB will catch up as usual. It’s been as entertaining as frustrating so I’m fine riding this wave a little longer, or watching the postseason in peace.
