@JeffJames9 It's a hockey game, Jeff. I'm very proud that team Canada won over 20 medals this go around. Winning silver in hockey is a great accomplishment. The butt hurt this morning is pretty ridiculous.

Oh no, our team of grown ass men playing a children's game were unsuccessful at beating the other team of grown ass men playing a children's game. The horror!

@Wilsonfarmgrain So what you’re saying is artificial insemination was artificial intelligence before intelligence became artificial?

@islandviewag @MaizeingPete Commmon, don’t be a couple of old boys discouraging a good incentive. - Closer to markets than the prairies, we’ve got the infrastructure to move it. - 1M in tiling goes far enough when you’re starting out. Let’s grow!

@MaizeingPete @farmerschneck could help minimize the drag here. 3, Weed management is pretty well understood with the limitations and costs of IPs. Starting clean a must. I think with managing these factors yield drag shouldn’t be higher than 10%. On 60-70bu ground this is still likely too much to give up

@MaizeingPete @farmerschneck 2. protein drag. Food grade beans specially for tofu are bred for ~42% and more importantly a higher 11S:7S protein ratio. While nitrogen is key nutrient to creating protein (and yield) 11S proteins have a higher need for micros like sulphur. Field choice or feeding accordingly

Rain makes grain, but also moves grain. Need to buck this trend before new crop shipping season. Low water surcharge now in effect for the tail end of our export.

@jpgervais Canadian soy basis appreciated to nearly match the 25% tariff. As many soybeans as possible to ship went to China from Canada that year. We even bought in US beans to replace our crush needs

But let's not forget price impacts matter too. US steel/aluminium tariffs in 2018 illustrate this point quite well. China retaliated with a 25% tariff on US soybean exports -> lower demand for US soybeans -> lower soy price -> lost revenues for Canadian soy producers
J.P. Gervais@jpgervais

Had lots of questions recently on the EV tariffs and possible retaliation from China. Of course, trade volume matters. Here's below breakdown of canola exports to China w/o and under restrictions #CdnAg

Great to have @ArlanFF101 out to our DG Global event today in Dresden. Informative presentation on current market drivers and risks. Thank you to all the producers who joined in for the discussions.

The EU wants to impose additional import taxes on food supplies from Russia: the impact on grain prices and flows will be close to 0. Supplies from Russia are negligible, except for durum, but Moscow banned its own exports months ago. Why do they do that? To calm down the farmers. Will it help? Let me doubt it. Because it's mostly irrelevant. #oatt #wheat #corn EU imports:

China purchased may shipment out of Brz this week almost at the same level of FOB USG. I'm wondering if Brz will export to the US crushers this year...

@MaizeingPete I’d like to add that harvest bean basis could drop faster than the jaws of Ontario white commerciallers calculating one months cost of interest from October to November

I’m genuinely curious why most ON elevators are posting premium on new crop corn basis vs old. Are we sure there’s a crop failure coming?

@dfergusonGGF I offloaded my increased costs backpack onto the global market when it reacted to possible fertilizer shortages. Most profitable year on the hobby farm yet. Would still be the true at current prices. 🤷‍♂️

@CDNag If China interfered with Canadian elections, why hasn’t PM leaked that? This is political theatre and your take is terrible.
