The fourth and final paper of my PhD with @hydrochrista and @DalHydro is out in Environmental Modelling & Software! We developed a physically-based hourly river temperature model that integrates seamlessly with @NOAA and @nwsnwc's National Water Model! authors.elsevier.com/a/1i3EZ4sKhEZH…

Above all, our work illustrates that there isn't a universal set of controls that applies to all rivers. We show how influential controls on river temperatures can differ drastically depending on the season, the choice of temperature metric, or the degree of human disruption.

Our models revealed that while climate tended to be the dominant control on river temperature magnitude, other predictors describing hydrology, watershed characteristics, and human impacts strongly influenced how water temperatures responded to climate forcings.

Our paper is out in Journal of Hydrology! An exciting collaboration with @hydrochrista and @freshwaterflows! authors.elsevier.com/a/1hGPK52cubK%… To untangle the complex controls of river thermal regimes, we trained random forest models to predict river water temperatures across the CONUS.
