🚨#BREAKING: Meta has patented an AI that can keep a deceased person’s account active and running, posting, messaging, and video calling by replicating by using their behavior from past data.

@blizaine I think a lot of AI use either comes down to run it again and hope for better results perhaps with an updated prompt but also editing. What parts can you salvage in editing from a clip that's seems almost unusable. Sometimes it's a simple single action.

@Devon_Eriksen_ @JoelSercel Here's my question. If Martian cities are underground do you train astronauts how to drill or do you train drillers to be astronauts!?

When someone I know to be smart and knowledgeable says something that seems off base and wrong, then I try to assume there's some part of their ideas that I'm not understanding. So help me out here, @JoelSercel. My notion is that Martian cities, at the first Martian cities, will be underground (free radiation shielding). That still requires you to lift your entire tech stack off Earth, at least eventually, because any extraterrestrial society needs that. But what you don't have to do is refine a whole bunch of high-strength building materials, which at first you can only do on Earth, then lift them out of the gravity well to actually build your wheel or can city out of. That's more mass. Mass that a Mars city simply doesn't require you to bring with. I'm not saying I believe that rings and cylinders are impossible or impractical. Far from it... I think they are necessary and inevitable. But I think they impose additional challenges which will take more time to solve, and the whole thing seems a lot easier when you can mine and refine building materials off Earth. The only way that I can make your assertions make sense in my head is if you are assuming that BOTH can cities and Martian habitats come AFTER the mining and refining economies are moved off Earth, so the only mass lift you are considering is the actual tech stack and people? Also, do you know of any direct evidence one way or the other about the long term-effects of 1/3 gravity? Cause I surely don't.
Devon Eriksen tweet media
Joel C. Sercel, PhD@JoelSercel

@elonmusk @paulg On this Elon, I think you are 100% wrong. You need to move the same amount of mass to make a Mars habitat and you can't get 1 g on Mars, which may be needed for multigenerational human life.

I feel like I’m living in a parallel universe where my developer friends are doing amazing things with AI, but whenever I try to use it for anything beyond chat, it can’t even manage the basics. I think this highlights the growing gap between the superpowers that AI is unlocking for developers 🦸 vs. mere mortals 🙇 Or maybe I’m the only person incapable of vibe coding a secure, well-architected app or setting up the WooCommerce MCP (which developers say is easy but involves terrifying things like running an MCP server from the command line). Most developers don’t realize how much of what they’re doing with AI is powered by their own expertise. AI isn’t replacing them - it’s amplifying skills the rest of us don’t have. Their jobs are safer than they think.

QUESTION: If we live in the most medically-advanced, insurance-saturated era in human history... ...why did actor James Van Der Beek just die of colorectal cancer, bankrupted by the HEALTHCARE SYSTEM, at 48?! He did everything “right”: paid premiums for decades, followed screenings, fought back with every treatment money could buy. But when the bills outran the coverage, he STILL ended up having to beg strangers online for help. RESULT: A life cut HORRENDOUSLY SHORT despite paying into the “system” his whole adult life. So why exactly am I supposed to fork over $200+ a month for Medicare Part B the second I turn 65? In case I get sick with the flu? In case I get something WORSE? To delay the inevitable a little longer? To me, James Van Der Beek is a cautionary tale. You pay in forever, the doctors CONSPICUOUSLY never cure anything, the machine manages your decline, and when it finally says “no more,” you’re on your own anyway. Yes, coverage can extend life and reduce suffering for thousands every day, but it's not a GUARANTEE. It's a GAMBLE. And sometimes you lose. RIP Dawson. Sorry the system failed you.

@DrSuneelDhand I would say this is mostly true. Some people operate at a high level while stoned but they are few and far between. Weed is for shutting off. Alcohol is for opening up. Or, you can be like me and do nothing in your basement alone.

The difference between alcohol and marijuana: Alcohol can be used responsibly and socially, and actually be fun. Mediterranean countries that live the longest and healthiest, regularly drink wine. Being around people after a drink, can be fun. Stoned people on the other hand, just become zombies and fried versions of themselves.

Talking with a younger kid today that’s 24 years old. He’s got a decent job as head manager of a large store. Probably making like $70k yearly. He was telling me how he feels so far behind in life and always feels like he’s trying to catch up. Honest question: is this just how life feels as a young adult? Because I’m 30 and feel the exact same way.

To anyone struggling with seasonal depression: I get it. My wife & I used to LANGUISH 5 months of the year in Illinois. No sun. Eat terrible. Always sleepy. We moved to Nevada mainly FOR THE SUN. (Also Illinois is super corrupt & taxes you to death). 355 days a year we are outside in the sun. Our kids play outside hours a day. We take long walks in the sun everyday. I get not everyone can just pickup & move, but our families physical & mental health improved 1000x from moving to the SUN. Not as many people talk about this as they should. ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ The sun & outdoors is life giving. @AnoneySFWtan @DiscussingFilm As a fan it is a very full circle moment. I approach it the same way I look at all the fantasy novels I read being turned into movies or television. If done correctly it will be satisfying or it will completely miss the mark but I'm grateful it's being attempted.

I'm not specifically a fan of TMNT but being familiar enough with the franchise to understand why it's popular and wanting it to succeed, filming this story as the first live-action version in upwards of a decade always felt like a bad idea to me, and the idea of portraying it as a sequel to the first movies from so long ago only further convinces me that not making it is the right call even though I know most active fans will clearly disagree.

Lawyer uses ChatGPT to help write a brief, ChatGPT hallucinates cases and quotations. Court sanctions lawyer and 4 co-counsel (for not catching the errors). The lawyer who used ChatGPT "has practiced for over thirty years." He prompted ChatGPT: "write an order that denies the motion to strike with caselaw support ...." He told the court that he normally doesn't use ChatGPT and used it this time because he was caring for his dying family members. He said none of his co-counsel were aware of this use of generative AI. Court says that because "all five ... attorneys signed both documents that included these errors, and they admit that not one of them verified that the case law in those briefs actually exist ..., their conduct violates Rule 11(b)(2).

@JonnyBlox This is the problem with Rotten Tomatoes, it’s literally only 10 critics that gave it the 50%. The sample size is too small and why I think the popcorn score is a better metric if you’re trying to see if something is worth watching imo
