So sad to say goodbye to my amazing year 13 vocal students as they go off on their adventures. What a bunch of legends. Can't wait for this lot to show up on the circuit in a few years! It's been a privilege and a pleasure, you guys. ❤️

When you leave 2 hours to complete a 1 hour journey in London, but will STILL be late because the trains are so unreliable. 1 cancelled, 1 late. Fuming. I'll leave 3 hours tomorrow, shall I? It's almost quicker to get here from Leeds!

Lovely to be back @Opera_North_Ed @Opera_North covering fabby @JuliaMariko (Alice) in Will Todd's 'Wonderland Restored'. First day observing today. The music is glorious - I can't believe I'm just discovering it now!

Google maps: 'what did you think of stage door at ROH?' Well, the door itself is lovely. Backstage, I'm helpless, and got lost between rehearsal rooms, of course! But if there's a theatre I don't get lost in I've yet to meet it. Is a sense of direction something you can learn?

I think this is the busiest June I've ever had. Two (brand new!) operas for me, and concerts every week for James. Some seriously fast memorising going on, and a lot of commuting 🥴🤩

The ⁦@RoyalOperaHouse⁩’s Jette Parker Artists Programme has announced the new company for 2024-5: mezzo Jingwen Cai, soprano Marianna Hovanisyan, bass-baritone Ossian Huskinson, baritone Siphe Kwani, pianist Richard Fu, director Sophie Gilpin and conductor Peggy Wu.

It's always great when a friend does something fab, and I'm so pleased series 2 of #NeuroticLiterature has arrived! These genius, unsettling stories stick around in your head long after the first hearing. Wonderful work, as always, Mr Lark.

@SofiaLivotov @annalapwood @TheCBSO Key point for me is that is needs the artist's agreement - with that, everyone knows what to expect. But filming with no warning / agreement is a different thing.

A couple of thoughts on using phones in concerts following @TheCBSO’s decision to encourage the audience to film clips and share them online - with the disclaimer I don’t think we all need to agree on this…!

@jsavournin Agreed. And even worse when they record snippets of the show (without permission.)

This happened at a performance last year. Two people produced their phones a whole 5 minutes in, and scrolled throughout the first act, before leaving at the interval. That wouldn’t be ok at a cinema, let alone at the theatre. Right?

@McKayEli Absolutely. This happened to me at an oratorio gig recently. It was someone wanting to record a pal of theirs I expect, but it was during one of my solos, and it was hugely stressful. Instead of concentrating on making music and telling the story, I was worried about how to react
