@DrBradJohnson I have a 5th grader and I remember when she was tested for reading in the summer before kindergarten even started. Then the second week of kindergarten. I’m a music teacher and didn’t push reading before starting kindergarten. I was stunned.

Remember when Kindergartners used to have partial days and still get naps—why would that not still be important? Even adults in business world take long lunches, miss an afternoon for golf or a ball game, yet we can’t let children have an extra recess or an occasional afternoon of play in school? Think of how much more they need it!

@JenDelSol @NicholasFerroni Our district has so many ways they contact parents: weekly newsletters in elementary, emails, info on the website, and sometimes robocalls. I can’t believe there is no notice.

Kelly Clarkson has celebrated teachers on her show, but expecting educators to work unpaid hours, on top of the hundreds of unpaid hours we already work, only reinforces toxic teacher culture.

At a resort pool. A mom and her 4 year old playing in front of me. “You’re stupid!” says the child. The mom: “Hey buddy, if you want to talk to me like that we’re going to get out of the water.” Parents do not parent anymore and it’s not going to be good for any of us.

There is no lie in this post. Special Education students overwhelmingly fail to reach basic levels of reading and math and the prison population is full of criminals who had an IEP is public school.
