@CroneMacaela @KIN110UofR That is a very good article! Definitely brings a more positive perspective to sport and the support politics can provide.

@KIN110UofR 1946 - Jackie Robinson - challenges diversity and faces the political justice system head on. An African American (first) baseball player signed by a white man. Incredibly inspiring and informative story that pushes barriers and altars the political system of government🙌🏻

@michaelakin110 @KIN110UofR That’s true, sometimes though Rider games fluctuate in attendance and the Riders deal with respectful season ticket holders. In this case you might get individuals who won’t be coming back to the stadium & may lack the common courtesy as well.

@DaniIng89 @hudsonkin110 @KIN110UofR I agree here. Very true. Perhaps if there were more and equal opportunity for professional sport for women, this would be different. The Olympics are a big event for women to showcase their talents to the world.

@KIN110UofR Yes, absolutely. Sponsorship is a huge factor in successful sport and I feel as though women’s sponsorships are lacking. It is incredibly sad to see as a female athlete.

@KIN110UofR The media coverage of women’s hockey is improving only because games are set at completely different times than men’s games. Typically day vs night. Although the coverage is there, it makes you wonder who might be watching in the middle of a work day. (2/2)

@KIN110UofR Media coverage of #womensport is slowly increasing. I suppose it has it improved, but I believe it has a long way to go yet. An example of this is the Olympics. Specifically winter & hockey. Men’s hockey is one of the most “popular” Olympic events and I have noticed that (1/2)

@hudsonkin110 @KIN110UofR That’s an awesome point about local businesses. There will be a large influx of people in and around the city. I hope this event will be beneficial for all!

@KIN110UofR I would like to believe that this event will have a positive #economicimpact on Regina/the province. This is an exciting occurrence in the city & just so happens to demonstrate Canada’s sport. There is lots of support through #volunteers & #sponsors as well, helping financially.

@KIN110UofR I think that the city of Regina does a great job of subsidizing for low income neighbourhoods/families as well.

@KIN110UofR I also believe that access to quality coaches, facilities & programs, is dependent on location. It is much easier to access those in the city of Regina than it is in surrounding smaller communities. This may be because of commuting & extra cost of accommodations.

@KIN110UofR I believe cost in sport is very largely based on where you live. I remember playing soccer/hockey in my small hometown and it was all fundraised & my family paid next to nothing. When we moved to a bigger community outside the city, every little thing cost money & no fundraising.

@Payten27060678 @KIN110UofR I believe early specialization plays a role here. Youth should be introduced to anything & everything about sports & play as much as possible for them & family. If a parent put their child only in soccer because they like it, the child might lose interest and quit all together.

@KIN110UofR As mentioned, some places make soccer seem a little more affordable because of the support. You would think that Canada is the same way, but with hockey. Given the fact that hockey is one of Canada’s sports, the support, funding and staffing is there. No questions asked.

@KIN110UofR I believe soccer as well as other sports is becoming #tooexpensive, #exclusive, & #elitist. I think a huge factor to this is the advancements from youth - adult - potentially pro. Sports are continually changing & with that change comes higher leagues, no parent volunteers, etc.

@MeganLalonde15 @KIN110UofR Very good point. I agree. Excitement within sport makes whatever the sport may be popular in that particular time.

@KIN110UofR We can compare this to the Toronto Blue Jays 3 years ago when everyone was spending thousands to watch them in the MLB World Series, just as people did for the NBA Finals this year. I think the Raptors would have to have many successful years in a row to be compared to hockey.
