@JenniferRead6 Hi Jennifer, I've passed on your feedback about the email. Can I check for your journey? Did you manage to get to your destination station with your original tickets purchased? Thanks, ~Cat

@thetrainline when you send an email saying that my train is cancelled, could the subject say CANCELLED rather than ‘Here’s what you need to know’? It needs to jump out without me opening it.

@ShakinthatChalk @PardoeMary @SparxLearning @hegartymaths Not hod, but tutor. Tutee showed his sparx maths - very complicated compound interest question, but he had never been taught,or come across, the formula. Admitted he’d used AI for homework in the past and now he’s stuck because the homework is all too difficult to do without.

Heads of maths departments secondary schools. What are your thoughts on pupils using AI for Sparx homework? I’m coming to term with what looks like rampant use of AI making homework virtually pointless. @SparxLearning @hegartymaths

Good morning folks from Bluecoat Chambers in School Lane, Liverpool. Built 1716-17 and the oldest surviving building in the city centre.

@RE_McGEE Important that the whole breadth of beliefs are covered. It’s an area that Christians are deeply divided over - evidenced by the mess General Synod is getting into. Well done for tackling it.

Today’s lesson was on Christian attitudes to sexuality, including homosexuality. Fascinating, but it requires subject knowledge and careful preparation. This isn’t a topic for non-specialists. Too many students are being short-changed in RS, and it’s unfair on teachers too.
Nikki McGee@RE_McGEE

I always find returning to work after a holiday hard, but it’s made easier when I realise my first lesson back is teaching sexual ethics to Year 11. Great conversations about Sodom and Gomorrah and Leviticus 18 - enabled my them bringing their KS3 knowledge.

Recently I was given access to a wonderful new tool for identifying and supporting dyscalculia and other Maths difficulties. Created by Rob Jennings, co-founder of the The @DyscalculiaNet1, and Jane Emerson, founder of Emerson House, this tool provides real insight into the challenges that some pupils face with maths and help to plan suitable interventions to address the gaps the these pupils may have. I have blogged about it here: educatingmrmattock.blogspot.com/2025/10/new-ma…

@Tesco maybe I could add my car registration number to my Clubcard to prove that I was in your shop spending lots of money, which would mean I don’t deserve a parking fine. The car park was empty too.

@shazmp23 We use it in our family, and I grew up on the Wirral with a mum from London, so nowhere near Kidderminster. I’ve never found anyone outside of the family who has heard of it. I was beginning to think we had made it up.

Is the word 'wrobble' just a Kidderminster word? As in 'I wrobbled up the paper' = 'I screwed up the paper', or 'this is too wrobbled' = 'this is too creased'. I am amazed that no one knows this word and use it frequently! #SettleAnArgumentForMeTwitter

In contrast to the awful act itself, the actual video of the felling of the Sycamore Gap tree is oddly beautiful. Like an old music video. As @treesey put it: like a charcoal animation. (nb: The court case is due to take 10 days, despite this video being on one of the defendants' phones, found in his jacket pocket. double nb: I posted this twice, as the original video source was deleted)

@adamboxer1 @MrMattock There’s a requirement to write something like 12,000 words at Master’s level to get a PGCE which then equates to, I think, 60 credits towards a Master’s . I did know one person who turned down the PGCE bit and and just qualified to teach but many might not be offered that.

@MrMattock That's a very romantic way of viewing it. For most it's just a chaotic year where they cram essays about some nonsense subjects the weekend before it's due

Every time I speak to a trainee teacher I get furious. They should be learning to teach - a hard enough job in itself. They shouldn't also be having to write 5000 word sociology essays, attend lectures about inquiry based learning and deliver presentations on vague non-teaching projects they're supposed to have done MADNESS

@GardenBrocante Sending sympathy. When we moved back from NL, we found this 12m high school at the bottom of the garden on what used to be tennis courts. I really miss the sky. We rented the house out and didn’t think to change address on the land registry. Not sure we could have stopped it.

@thosethatcan We’ve previously bought back a car that was written off and had it repaired. Insurance companies seem to write off cars quite lightly.

The accident was totally not my fault and I can't help feeling I've been pushed into a position I don't want to be in. Anyway, sentimentality aside, we're not in a position to fork out for a new one so will manage between us for now. 3/3

The little car bump (dented back end) of 4 weeks ago has, according to my (own!) insurance company resulted in my car being deemed a 'total loss' - 'write-off' in old language. First world problems, but I did love that little car and hadn't expected this result at all... 1/

It’s been a fairly challenging period, and someone drove into the back of my car this evening. An exercise in perspective. Nobody hurt, she was having a bad evening, I gave her a hug. It’s tedious but it’s metal and plastic, after all.

@DyscalculiaNet1 ….and there’s little opportunity for building up functional numeracy whilst desperately practising the easiest ways to get any marks. It would benefit students more if schools were required to get everyone to a basic level level of numeracy. But the students currently need GCSE.

@DyscalculiaNet1 As a maths tutor, I’ve found that some schools are too late to decide on Foundation or Higher, if they will score any marks on higher topics already taught at the expense of functional numeracy, then the 18% v 60% wins and it’s very stressful for them trying to find the 18%.

Jet Lewin talks about schools who sit students for the higher GCSE maths paper who they think will fail the foundation paper. Is the school's responsibility helping students to pass an exam, or making sure they have functional numeracy? wix.to/gM7vP5E #dyscalculia
