New #research alert! @SciReports has an article on the feasibility of an invasive hippocampal #brain-computer interface for wheelchair control. Its findings may lay groundwork for future research in developing more intuitive and effective #BCI solutions: go.nature.com/3R3BQ8W

UCSF researchers, led by Prasad Shirvalkar, MD, PhD, and @ChangLab, have reported the first objective biomarkers of chronic pain states from direct neural recordings in the ACC and OFC. OFC signals more strongly correlated with chronic pain. @natureneuro ucsf.edu/news/2023/05/4…

This 1938 paper by Grass & Gibbs is (I think) the first paper to compute Fourier transforms of EEG data! They developed a device to compute frequency domain representations of EEG data (pictured) and analyzed over 300 EEGs (!!), arguing for the utility of this kind of approach.

Extremely hard to watch the #blm protests from so far away, especially when things are looking like they’re back to normal in Germany. I can only hope that there‘s real tangible change in how US police deal with the people that they’re supposed to protect after all of this

My plans: 2020:

@max_hodak Some argue it to be the result of sexual selection. I think it’s the byproduct of brain mechanisms that were selected for non-musical functions. Basically, circuits that were developed for speech processing, scene analysis, and motor abilities are being tickled juuuust right.
