Prostatic Artery Embolization vs TURP: "All outcomes, including IPSS, QOL, peak flow, and postvoid residual volume (PVR), were equivalent at 12 and 24 months. TURP --> higher rates of bladder catheterization and hospitalization. Major complications were encountered only in the TURP group." jvir.org/article/S1051-… #iRad

Dr. Kim published a case report in the Journal of Vascular & Interventional Radiology detailing a unique prostate artery embolization procedure. The report highlights the clinical approach & outcomes of this minimally invasive treatment for BPH. @DrGluRu jvir.org/article/S1051-…

Is it me or does it seem like we’ve had an explosion of “embolization experts” in the U.S. the last 6-12 months with the only embolization procedure they offer being Genicular Artery Embolization #GAE for knee pain? #irad @SIRspecialists @SIRRFS

@ChengaziMD @JVIRmedia Thanks! Was not too hypertrophied. I tried to access a smaller peripheral branch based on anatomical landmarks and with ultrasound guidance using color Doppler

@DrGluRu @JVIRmedia Incredible creativity. Was the inferior gluteal hypertrophied allowing for 5f sheath access? Any tips for identifying it on US?

@erinokp99 @SPuro88 PAE is one of the most technically challenging procedures we do so experience is definitely required for optimal outcomes.

@DrGluRu @SPuro88 Makes sense if you take the time to target them. Our IR is great, but not high volume for PAE so I would imagine that’s why the success rates in terms of symptomatic improvement don’t seem to be as high for me in intravesical median lobe patients.

@erinokp99 😂 I’ve had 0 patients go to simple prostatectomy. Definitely a role for it though for the right patients and clinical scenario.

@DrGluRu PAE will hopefully make his future simple prostatectomy easier!

@SPuro88 Great ?. Current data suggests no diff in outcomes which is consistent with what I’m seeing clinically. I think this is one of the advantages relative to other MISTs. I personally try to target the median lobes when present. Worst case scenario I send him back to you! :)

@DrGluRu Interested to see how he does. Looks like a decent intravesical/median lobe component. Always hesitant to offer these patients PAE since in my mind that’s more of a physical obstruction to overcome, but obviously in great hands with you!
