@mathelirium @shamionx "Deeply insulted" is a far cry from "not interested in reading your irrelevant, uninformed opinion". The American ethos says that you have the right to your opinion, and you have the right to say it. It does not mean I have to listen to it.
English

@shamionx I think It's mainly to protect US politics. A lot of American feel deeply insulted when an African or Asian has a strong opinion about their government.
But of course this will hurt discourse in other topics like STEM.
English

If you say someone else is "fundamentally misunderstanding the nature of intelligence" then you are by definition, claiming that A) there is some thing that is the nature of intelligence B) the person you are criticizing has fundamentally misunderstood it, and importantly, by extension that C) you are qualified to judge whether the person you are criticizing does fundamentally misunderstand the nature of intelligence. And the only way to be qualified to make that judgment would be if you yourself fundamentally understand the nature of intelligence. Ergo, @M_Cottone is justified in criticizing you with the idea that you shouldn't be as confident in the nature of intelligence using only the construct of your own post to which he was replying. (For those of you who didn't follow, here is the GenZ version: Ur Stoopit! lol! 🤣 )
English

@M_Cottone Tell me what you believe I think intelligence is.
If you can't do so, this post has no meaning other than "no one should say anything about intelligence".
English

I'm not really sure anyone should be that confident about the nature of intelligence – this includes both Sam and Matt P.
Matthew Pirkowski@MattPirkowski
Tell me you fundamentally misunderstand the nature of intelligence without telling me.
English

@mathelirium Yes. You know where I saw this the most? Professors in American universities.

Second-hand Embarrassment From Watching Someone Teach What They do Not Understand.😩
You ever watch someone present a topic they clearly do not understand, explain basics badly to an audience that already knows them, ignore every hint of correction, then double down on the wrong interpretation with confidence?
English

@grok @rluxem12257 @danielgothits @JacintaAllanMP Sorry, I meant the total principal plus interest. Since math isn't your strong suit, @rluxem12257 , I'll multiply that out for you. It's $479.
English

@JeremySFrench @rluxem12257 @danielgothits @JacintaAllanMP The monthly payment to amortize $200 over 30 years at 7% interest is $1.33.
(That's the fixed principal + interest payment each month until paid off.)
Up to you and rluxem12257 on the check part.
English

@rluxem12257 @danielgothits @JacintaAllanMP Hey @grok what's $200 amortized over 30 years at 7% interest? @rluxem12257 Since that's no big deal to you, why don't you send me a check for that amount?
English

@JeremySFrench @danielgothits @JacintaAllanMP Oh nooo a couple hundred dollars amortized over 10 years!! How will the real estate market ever survive this! Buyers paying for multiple inspections is the backbone of the industry !
English

@danielgothits @JacintaAllanMP And then each buyer has to pay for an unbiased one anyway. So all you've done is add another expense to the closing costs for no purpose, which get passed on to the buyer. Way to look out for the little guy.
English

@JacintaAllanMP Lol then the inspector is getting paid by the seller so they’ll obviously be favorable to them, since that’s their client
Politicians are fucking retards

Only laws passed by Congress are laws. No "rulings" by any court. No executive orders. No appointed federal agencies that make up rules for the populace to follow. Supreme Court can strike down a law, but not declare an "interpretation" in its place. It just goes back to Congress to rewrite.
If I get to pass two laws, the second would be to make Congress an unpaid position.
Btw, both of these were how the founding fathers designed the constitution in the first place. So all I'm really doing is passing a law that says we have to obey the laws that are already in place.
English

@JesterJum This is not a hot take. Nor controversial. It is agreed by 98% of everyone, Including legislators by the way. So, do we leave it on DST or regular? And that is where the arguments heat up to an absolute shit show, and no bill can get passed.
English

@Txp_RBI_Xctuxl At least they don't make posts asking dead people questions and expect them to reply.

@Kronykal Just to be clear, 0.34 watt-hours costs approximately $0.0005 (1/20 of a penny) from your average electric utility. When you pop a bag of popcorn in your microwave, you use 100 watt hours.
English

I’m not a green hippie by any stretch but just so you know every time you ask “Grok, is this true?” or anything like that you consume 0.24 to 0.34 watt-hours (10 times that of a text search). A 5 second video uses over 3 million Joules, or 700 times more energy than creating an image.
Now multiply that by what you’ve seen just here on X.
I’m just sayin.
English

I'll admit that I was a parent that made this choice with my own kids. My thinking was that learning to interact with the different types of people that you meet out in the world was even more valuable than learning more or even more correctly the actual content. I am still able to recognize people who are one of the 20 or so personality types that you meet in high school, and that knowledge lets me recognize who I can trust and who will cheat you at the first opportunity.
However. I no longer think this. I would homeschool my kids if I had it to do over again.
English

“The whole point of school is to socialize your children.”
When they say that, what they mean is that the whole point of public school is to indoctrinate your children into the cult of socialism.
To break your children away from the natural relationships they have and replace them with a permanent relationship with the state.
It is evil.
They know it.
And they are willing to say it publicly.
Colin@Colin_d_m
Homeschooling should be illegal. “But I teach my kids better than the state!” Doesn’t matter, the primary purpose of elementary/middle school isn’t to teach it’s to socialize your kid. You can’t do that alone. And this isn’t even mentioning how it can be used to abuse kids
English

@weswinder "People who know what they're talking about are suggesting that an oversimplified approach won't work well. Completely predictable." -- Agreed.
English

@VayaConDonos @1ssve I get that. But I don't think you understand that there are companies where "declining" a meeting is disallowed unless you're dying. These are not healthy companies, to be sure, but they are unfortunately not that rare.
English

@JeremySFrench @1ssve I get dozens of meetings on my calendar every day. I decline many, I attend many, and some recurring ones I attend for awhile until I decide it isn’t worth my time.
English

Every single person who is currently reading this on X grew up privileged. If you don't understand that, then you're just qualifying everyone *more* privileged than you "privileged" and everyone beneath you "not." Ergo, you, personally, are the fulcrum for the term. I don't think I've ever heard a more privileged perspective.
