For me, the thought exercise is one of insecurity. My brain holds court, promises to give a fair examination rather than hastily bury what's messy and uncomfortable. I zoom out on the temporal plane: Scenario 1: Time is roughly linear. Why dwell on what's already made permanent? Besides, present me IS 18 year old me, just with more code pushed. I arrive at the same conclusion as you. The question belongs in the present where it is actionable. Seems like there's more to be unpacked here -> send to appellate court for further examination. Scenario 2: Time moves in perfect harmony, simultaneously in all directions, by some divine will or predetermination. Every version of me, past and present, asks the question at the same time rendering its premise nonsensical. Open and shut, case dismissed. Scenario 2 is lighter load, faster processing. Lazy cope? Maybe. Who knows what's right?

Sometimes I imagine my 18 year-old self, long and lean with a future stretching ahead, and I wonder if we met today what would he think of me? Would he be proud of me? Then I suppose this is just a way of me asking myself the same question.
