In other Flourish news, check out our new paper! In it, we discuss the role of faculty affinity groups in psychological science. We would not have been able to write it without our wonderful community and their contributions to our network. compass.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/sp…

I love my grad students for many many reasons, but their commitment to blending “coconut tree” into a paper we are writing is high on the list. @EmersonATodd "Participants exist in the context of all in which they live and what came before them."

We use a strengths-based approach and analyze the literature via a social ecological model of belonging. We address factors within: individuals (eg psychological differences), relationships (eg families of choice), communities (eg neighborhoods), and societies (eg norms). (2/3)

I defended my dissertation 12 years ago TODAY, so it feels fitting to share about my recently published paper at Journal of Personality and Social Psychology (JPSP) with my forever collaBAErator @EvaSPietri Available at: dx.doi.org/10.1037/pspi00… 1/n

Yes! As of 1.5 years ago, @BritWardecker and I have a mixed-track PhD household. Brit’s non-ac work has both amazing and super annoying aspects; so does my academic career. Just do what seems like a good track for you and let others do the same. Both careers are good careers!✌🏼
Jaclyn A. Siegel, PhD@jacasiegel

I am always confused when I see posts glorifying jobs outside of academia. Every job has things that are hard, bad, and annoying about it. There are things that are better and things that are worse and things that are just different about non-academic jobs.

More connections with the best people! Can you believe @JesMatsick was one of my grad student mentors when I was a fresh little undergrad RA? And now she’s giving me all the advice as a fellow feminist psych professor! 🥰

@DCameron84 Yep! Just spent a few days “at” a conference with a baby often on my lap and it was soooo nice to engage and be included (otherwise, would not have went). Grateful for virtual coordinating!

And if you have kids, or have difficulties traveling for other reasons, that's another key perk of the virtual format. It also opens up voice to attendees who may not feel as comfortable raising questions at large in-person events. Embrace the virtual conference. This is the way.

H/t @AcademicsSay on FB. This is one reason why Expanding Empathy is virtual and free. Virtual format is more accessible for conferences, allowing benefit of speakers *and* attendees from around the world. Should always be an option. @PSULiberalArts @SSRIPennState @PSUPsychology
Daniel Gould, MD, PhD@DJGould94

Bro please come to the conference. Registration fee $1000 ($950 early bird), flights & accommodation $3000. You'll present for 6 minutes and get roasted. You can't present virtually because...look you just can't ok. There's a yoga session. You'll get a point on your CV bro please
